rehearsal questions

hello ladies~ i wasn't going to do a rehearsal but i'm beginning to think that i probably should because so many of my bms are from out of town... for those of you who have experience and can give some guidance, where do you usually do your rehearsal? does your reception hall give you a time?

also, do you ask your officiant and ceremony musician to goto the rehearsal?

i just finished looking at invitation wording the whole day today and think i've hit a roadblock

thanks everyone for your help!!

Re: rehearsal questions

For every wedding that I have been in and they have all been at the RH the rehearsal is actually done a few minutes before the ceremony begins. Most RH will have an affair going on the night before your wedding.

I was under the impression that the term rehersal dinner is an old term and today most people have a dinner for OOT guests and bridal party but call it a rehersal dinner.

Maybe a church ceremony is different but I have never been to one.

Re: rehearsal questions

wow, at the RH a few minutes before the ceremony? my RH keeps insisting that i can't arrive too much earlier than my ceremony and that they might not have the bridal suite that i want either... is this true for all RH rehearsals?

thanks for clarifying on the rehearsal dinner~ i was confused about that actually.... so the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner are separate things?

again, i'm hitting that brick wall...

Re: rehearsal questions

Usually the bride and groom (it's traditional for the groom's parents to but I personally don't know many who have) host the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant or their house the night (or a few nights) before the wedding. The BP, close family and OOT guests are invited and sometimes, the officiant is too. If the officiant is there he/she might do a very quick runthrough with everyone involved in the ceremony or just meet and greet everyone (that's what ours will be doing). Usually the ceremony musician isn't there because it isn't necessary (most rehearsals are very quick, if there are any) and they would charge for their time...
From what I've experienced as a BM, the RD is just another 'bonding experience' with the people closest to the bride and groom more than a 'rehearsal' per se.
HTH. Good luck!!!

Re: rehearsal questions

To be honest, a rehearsal is NOT necessary. Its simple, everyone lines up and walks-thats it. Our rehearsal was seriously pointless-granted the only thing they needed to know was where they were seating and the order they walked, that was it.

Most RHs as I have read on this site give you a mini rehearsal shortly before your ceremony-but like I said its not necessary.

If you wanted to do a dinner you could-usually its your ILs who host it and its wherever they choose. The whole BP, immediate family are invited-some extend the invite to OOT guests but depending on the list this could cost $$$

Yes, te RD and the actual rehearsal are usually separate. It sounds as if you are getting married at your RH. You should find out how early you can be at your RH without incurring a fee (for example we are allowed to be at my RH at 9 AM - I can go to the bridal suite and get settled, etc. w/my BP - and hospitality starts at 11 AM. If I want to be there earlier than 9AM, we have to pay a fee).

I'm sorry, I don't understand...is there more than one bridal suite at your RH? From what I understand most RHs allow their brides and grooms and BP to be on site 2 hours before the guests are due to arrive without having to pay an extra fee, and you can settle in at that time.

Re: rehearsal questions

it depends on the size of ur bridal party and how in depth ur ceremony is.... we had three readings & three songs - and did things a little different. so a rehearsal was nessecary for us. if u're just doing a basic 30min. ceremony at ur hall i wouldn't say it's ENTIRELY important, but if u can do a run through beforehand i would only because then u can actually think about whats taking place and not 'oh no - where do i go next??' ya know?

talk to ur RH..usually they do a rehearsal a few minutes before the ceremony.. good luck!

Re: rehearsal questions

my parents are hosting the rehearsal dinner at their house. Mostly, as one poster stated, as a bonding experience. Its where our parents will meet for the first time! We are doing a quick rehearsal in the back yard (no officiant) mostly for our flower girl. And i also want to see how the timing is with the song that we picked. We're keeping the dinner casual with some catered food.
