Fh's parents are not paying for our RD, and my parents know that .We have been discussing where we should have it because Fh and I didnt want to spend a fortuane. Well yesterday I go to my Mom's and my Dad says oh we are going to book the RD at Shandon Court and I said well that is where I wanted it but FH and I have not looked into it yet, my Dad says well mom and I did and they have your date open and we are paying for it. I told them FH and I would pay and they said they wanted to. now I dont know what to do I feel bad having MY parents pay for something that FH parents should be paying for What would you guys do?

Sometimes these things happen & if your parents really wantto i think its a very nice gesture & allow them to do it. I assume your parents are not paying for your wedding are they??? Because then i would feel bad too.

At a time when a couple should be saving to start their new life together, having the help of family is the best thing they could ask for. If your parents really don't mind, I would let them pay. If they can handle the expense, I'm sure they're happy to do it to take the financial burden off of you two.

I wouldn't feel too bad, but it also depends on the situation. Are FH's parent's not paying because they're paying for the wedding? Or are they not paying just for fun? If they're not paying for the wedding, and your parents aren't paying for the wedding, and you guys are doing it by yourselves, then I would welcome the help. If your parents are also paying, I can see why you would feel bad. I'm afraid I'm going to be in a reverse situation, because my parents aren't paying for the wedding really at all, and FH's are, and even though tradition dictates it's the man's side that does the RD, I'd feel really guilty because they're already doing so much.

I think you should smile and say 'thank you'
You are very lucky to have such giving parents. They seem like great people
I know you feel bad, but they want to pay, so let them. Or maybe give them some money, if they will take it. If not, buy them a really nice gift.

same thing is happening here! FH's parents arent paying for anything. FH and I are paying for the RD though because my parents are paying for everything else.

Your parents probably feel really good that they are doing it....if I were a parent and my future inlaws didn't want to pay for it I would be happy to do it.... let them and get them something really nice....like a mini vacation or something

When parents set their mind to something, just let them do it. Take the money you would have spent and put it towards a gift for them (or get them a gift if you weren't planning to). Theater tickets or a new digital camera or something.

i would let you parents pay for it. it sounds like they are excited to throw this party for you, and even though it is a lot of money, i bet it makes them happy to be able to do this for you

ITA FH and I are paying for everything ouselves and my mom wants to gives us a few thousand that she doesn't truly have (it is in a cd she was saving for retirement) she is a widow and has a low paying job but she is insisting on giving it to us. She said it would make her happy to help us. Our intentions are to use the money and give it back the day after the wedding.
