The only thing my FIL's are doing for us is paying for the RD. I am happy they are doing this but now they think they cna do what they want. FH as telling me that they do not want it the night b4 (that is the night we booked with the Church). FMIL says thats he thinks it is no good in case ppl are drinking and the wedding is the next day. She thinsk it should be the week b4 wghich I am totally against since I have work and can not take a half a day since I wil be off for 2 weeks!
When are you ladies doing your rehersal? I always thought it was the night before or 2 days before the wedding generally, at leats every wedding I have been in was that way.

Re: Rehersal Dinner
We're doing it the night before. We have OOT people in our BP who couldn't afford to travel two weeks in a row.
As far as the date goes, your FH really needs to explain to his parents that it has to be close to the wedding. They shouldn't push for it to be the week before.
If everyone is in town, though, it shouldn't be a problem to have it the week before -- However, people need to take off work, etc. I'd try to explain to them that it has to be the night before (or even two days before) for logistical reasons.

Re: Rehersal Dinner
Exactly! Our entire BP lives close by. Our wedding is on Friday 10-26 I am taking off the wednesday and thursday before, if we have the RD a week before it will be on a work night and I work in NYC and will have to leave early which I can not do. They are like talkign to a wall!!!

We're doing the same exact thing. Maybe you can convince her to do it 2 days before as a compromise? Good luck!

Our MOH and BM are coming from OOT, so we are having the rehearsal the night before the wedding (Friday night)

Re: Rehersal Dinner
We did ours the night before-but we had our rehearsal wednesday night...silly but our rehearsal wasnt over until almost 730 and we booked the restaurant in suffolk. Trust me-no one goes overboard with the drinking at the dinner-you will have family around you so I wouldnt worry too much about that

Re: Rehersal Dinner
The night before because of all the reasons you stated:
1. I can't be guaranteed to get days off of work (even weekend days) and I booked it far in advance...I DID know they'd give me the weekend of my wedding.
2. Out of town members of the bridal party will need to be there the day before.
3. It's distracting: I need something to make time go by fast & then get me off to zzzzz.
What we did was make it EARLY. (To start at 3:30PM).

Re: Rehersal Dinner
Our priest told it had to be the night before.
I really didn't wan tit that wya, but he saidh that people tens to forget what they are supposed to do.
I am havign a rehearsal early dinner. We are goign to eat first.
We won't be done with the rehearsal until like 8:30. it is too late to start eating and drinking. We all have to up so early the next day.
I went through the same battle.

Re: Rehersal Dinner
My wedding was at 11 am & we did our RD the night before. People aren't idiots. They won't get loaded. If that's TRULY their only concern, just have the place serve beer & wine (no hard alc.) That ought to help.
Personally, I would tell them that is the only night the church will do it, if that's the night you want.

Re: Rehersal Dinner
The week before, but not because I wanted it, because the church only had that day available.
