My FMIL said from the beginning that she would be hosting the rehersal dinner because that is the mother of the grooms job. She just told me that she is having it at her house and it will be corned beef and cabbage since our rehersal will most probably be on St Patricks Day
I hate Corned Beef and Cabbage and dont want to have the dinner at her house My mom said she would do it at her house (which is bigger) and I would prefer that. Should I say something or just be gracious and do my FMIL house??
p.s. if FH is lurking THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON YOUR MOM I LOVE HER JUST NOT THAT IDEA

Re: rehersal dinner issues
Hmmm... depends how you can talk to your FMIL. If you think you can tell her your ideas without offending her, you can try talking to her but this sounds very delicate.
She offered to do it so I definitely wouldn't take away the hosting aspect of it from her by saying you want it at your Mom's house. I think that would offend her no matter how you put it.
Maybe you can just talk to her about changing the menu or having different options. Maybe even have your FH tell her that you would never say anything, but that you hate Corned beef and cabbage.
You don't want to seem ungrateful she offered to throw your rehearsal dinner, so try to leave as much of it in her hands as possible.

Re: rehersal dinner issues
I guess I just wanted it to be a special night about us and give out our bridal party gifts etc. not a St patty's day thing

Are they Irish? The Irish part of my family actually makes a big deal out of St. Patrick's day, and always does the corned beef and cabbage thing. Could you ask her to have other food options for people who don't like corned beef? Or maybe if you switch the day she would switch the entree choices?

I wouldn't like that idea either. How you approach her would depend on your relationship with her. I am close with my MIL, but in this situation I'd probably make my DH talk to her since its his mom. Then I'd have us all talk about different ideas until we could compromise on one.

maybe tell her that a lot of people don't like cornbeef and cabbage (which is true), and you'd rather have something that everybody would enjoy?

I dont wanna hurt her feelings and since FH doesnt care then I will try not to make a big deal about it Venting on here is enough for me for now

Re: rehersal dinner issues
Atleast, your FMIL offered. Mine hasn't. I would check with her to see if she will have something other than the Corned beef and Cabbage.
Also, I would not suggest having it at your mom's house.. that would be pretty insulting- IMO.

Re: rehersal dinner issues
First and foremost, the rehersal dinner, traditionally, is suppose to be held in honor of the bride and groom so they can have a relaxing night prior to their wedding with friends and family. It isn't suppose to be for the bridal party. I had absolutely nothing to do with my rehersal dinner. It was planned and hosted completely by the future in-laws. They did a fantastic job. They threw a Luau themed affair that was so much fun. You may want to say something about menu, since you don't like corned beef, but I would let them have fun with it. They are trying to make it special and nice for you.
