Ok, it is usually the groom's mother who is responsible for the RD. My FMIL is tight on money right now which is ok, no problem by me. So she suggested it at the house. We live in Hicksville. Now majority of my family and friends, including BM's, are from out of town and will either be flying in Friday night to the hotel or driving which is about a 4 hour trip. The hotel is in Islandia. Now not far for me and no big deal, but it is not fair for my family and BM's to do more driving. We have to be up at 6:30am the day of the wedding. If it is at the house then I will be stuck cleaning and I of course have to wait for everyone to leave. I wouldn't be getting back to the hotel until probably midnight or later. I need a good nights rest. His mother doesn't seem to agree with me and my FH is giving me the same vibe. I don't really care if we have one or not. We aren't rehearsing that night anyway. Our ceremony is in the reception hall. What do I do?

Re: Rehersal Dinner(sorry long)
maybe you can do something more casual - like rent a room at the hotel and just have pizza and soda - or something else simple just to thank your bridal party and get a chance to all hang out

I don't know how you feel about this, but we are paying for our rehearsal ourself. My future in-laws are divorced. My FMIL doesn't have the money to pay for one and my FFIL has not offered, so to avoid a headache, we are paying for it ourself. This way, we get to make all the decisions about where, when, etc.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

What if you tried to go to a place that is in between the hotel and his family that is not very expensive? Then everyone might be happy?
