Has anyone ever seen this done or heard of anyone doing it? I really want to release butterflies as we come out of the church but I am afraid it won't go well. Thanks!

Re: Releasing Butterflies
I have never heard any good stories about the butterfly release. Only disappointments. Ex. That they took too long to fly

Re: Releasing Butterflies
I've also heard that a lot of people don't quite understand how delicate the butterflies are and the butterflies end up getting crushed

Re: Releasing Butterflies
I went to a wedding where they used them and it was a disaster.. dead butterflies..butterflies flying into the brides veil. It wasn't pretty or romantic

Re: Releasing Butterflies
I did a butterfly release at my 7/31/04 wedding and had a WONDERFUL experience.
I did a mass release, and they all flew when they were supposed to, landing on bouquets, floral arrangements and even on my DH.
One of my guests even took one of my ceremony arrangements home with the butterfly still on it.
People are still talking about it!

also, some do not make it ETA: I have heard that the time of year can make a big difference, and the time of day of the ceremony....maybe you should ask the handlers what the optimal setting hould be?

Re: Releasing Butterflies
You seem to have your heart set on butterflies, but how about doves? i'm releasing 12 at my wedding next May. Kind of the same effect, but you won't have to worry about them surviving the ordeal.

Still waiting for proofs from photographers. Will FM you once I get them (should be in another week or so).

Re: Releasing Butterflies
If you are planning on releasing butterflies I would recommend doing a mass release instead of giving one to each guest. There is a better chance that they will fly and not get crushed by guests who are unaware of what is in the little white envelope.

Re: Releasing Butterflies
Just another point of view - I spoke with a photographer who said that they don't really show up great on film, but they do make for great pictures of the guests faces and expressions because it is so unusual. Good luck - if you like it I say do it.

I also had a friend who did the envelope release butterflies, and almost all of them were dead. NOT AT ALL what they wanted! But this 'mass release' thing sounds great!

Re: Releasing Butterflies
I wanted them too, until I found out they are captured, then they are technically kept frozen to keep them dormid (SP?). You then have to keep them cold until about 15 minutes before they are released. When you release them some of them go into to shock and they die. As much as I wanted them, I couldn't do it. I love all animals too much to take a chance. And depending on the time of year, even if they survive, they may die eventually sooner because of the air tempature in New York. I used doves instead. And they photograph much better. Hope this is helpful.;-

Re: Releasing Butterflies
For those who have had good luck with the butterfly releases, could you list the vendor you bought them from. Also, for those who have had bad luck (with dead butterflies) could you mention the vendor. From all the reading I've done it seems like the quality of the vendor has alot to do with how well it works (in addition to the weather that day). Thanks.
