Religious Question ...about Catholic Priests

My fiance is catholic and friends with a priest. I am not christian and don't want a christian wedding , however I agreed to have his friend marry us in a non demonational ceremony. Is his friend , allowed to marry us at the reception hall or does it have to be a church ? I am not Catholic, does that matter ?

My cousin's priest who is a family friend married them on the grounds of the reception hall. Her DH is Jewish. They also had a rabbi.

I think it all depends on the priest. If he is a good friend of your FH then maybe he'll marry you outside of a church. I would ask him if he would not mind doing that.

It all depends on the priest, really. Some are more liberal in regards to where a wedding should be performed and if one of the spouses is not Catholic. It could also be a matter of what the Church he is affiliated thinks, but if you're not getting married in a church that won't really matter.

Just a thought but if u plan on having children and raising them as catholic then u should get married in the church. I had a friend who was married by a priest at a hall and when it was time for her baby to be baptised she was told that her marriage was not recognized by the church because she wasn't married in the church.

didnt think catholic priests did ceremonies outside the church - thought they had officiants - but could be wrong because what alixgirl says sounds right
