Relocation question..

has anyone ever thought about relocating? i've been in NY almost my entire life but i toy with the idea of moving away from ny...can afford more property, less hustle and bustle, etc. if you ladies could move anywhere, would you stay put or choose another city, state, country etc?

Re: Relocation question..

I moved to FL because I wanted to experience something different then NY. I was realizing that everyone who grows up on LI, stays on LI and it's just a never ending cycle. So I left. And let me tell you...if I could go back in time I WOULD HAVE STAYED!!!! Note to self...never make your vacation spot your home.

If I could relocate...I'd be booking a one way ticket back to NY!

Re: Relocation question..

I <3 NY and want to stay but financially idk how possible it will be. We talked about moving to FL a while ago, but then my nephew was born and I could never be that far away from him. My sister's live in Maryland so that is probably the farthest I would go.

Oh and I have to be within a 1 hour drive to the beach, I could never be land locked!

I would absolutely move out of state without a question, but FH would never-he has been with his job for 15 years and plans on staying there until he retires and only knows NY

I want to move SO bad... it's just ridiculous how expensive NY is. If I didn't have any family/friends I would already be elsewhere, but I want to be near the people I love.

FH and I have talked in the past about moving to Arizona. But I told him I would never do it until we are already married and have a life together. He would go in a heart beat, but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to move out of NY. I love it too much. Besides, all of our friends and family are here. Going to Boston for college was hard enough for me

I've lived in Japan and would LOVE to go back. But, it is not realistic at this point. So, we are probably going to be moving to CT next year for me to go back to school for my PhD. I don't like the city, the pace, the people, and especially the expenses!

Honestly I think it'd be nice to live somewhere else...I've lived here my whole life. That being said, we'll probably never move because everyone I know and love is here and I don't want to leave them.

Re: Relocation question..

Ok here's my two sense: As many of you know, FH & I relocated to CT. Its definitely bittersweet. The pros are we own a beauitful home, make the same amount of money as we did in NYC, location is great (we are in a shoreline community). However, the con is definitely living away from family and friends. They come and visit a lot, but I hate that I have no one to get my nails done with or go shopping with. After two years of living up here, I have a little group of friends from CT, but it took awhile to adjust. Still, if FH said let's move back to LI, I think I would. I just miss my family sometimes.

So if you can deal with the separation of friends and family, its definitely great to relocate. If not, then don't do it.

Fh is now working for Geico and apaarently the way to go as a adjuster is to relocate...so we may decide there is an oppertunity we can't refuse... I woudn't move anywhere more then a 3-5 hour drive away from LI.

I disucssed this with my mom the other day, how could I leave my entire family and fh's entire family? I would not like to move, but money talks.. lol

Re: Relocation question..

My parents live in southwest Florida and FH's parents are going to move back to Bangladesh in a couple of years, so it's not like we feel tied down by our parents living here.
That being said, since I work in the Broadway theatre industry and he works for a major shipping company, it will be hard to find a place that will balance both of our careers. Right now we're both happy where we are; I love the many perks of my job and he enjoys his job. (He works on the Island, though, and we both live in Queens...so we're thinking of moving out East a bit)

Perhaps if/when we decide to start a family, then we'll take into consideration more about where we'll be living.

ETA: We'd like to move to Montreal, and his company would be able to make that happen for him, but finding work for me would be very difficult.

Fh and I almost moved to FL last December....he was all gung ho to do it, and I just couldn't do it and leave my family...at all. Turns out - he was happy that I came to my senses because he now doesn't want to move away. Although living on LI is expensive - we just can't leave!
