Remembering Loved Ones in Program

How is everyone remembering their loved ones who have passed during the ceremony and in the program?

I was going to...my grandparents, and a close friend who actually introduced me to my FH. But my parents thought that it was not appropriate - that it was a wedding, not a funeral, and we shouldn't make people sad. What we are going to do instead, I think, is when we make our 'thank you' toast at the end of the wedding, just briefly mention the people that aren't there and thank them as well.

For my father we are putting, 'In memory of John Doe, although he can not be with us today he is with us in our hearts.' Or something to that effect.

Funny, my dad has been gone for so long, but I just have been feeling him near me lately.

Put a poem on the last page and list the names of the deceased.

This website has good examples. This is one of my favorites!

On the last page of our program we had a poem and it said in loving memeory of my brother!! We also lit a candle in the beginning of the ceremony which turned out to be beautiful as Ave Maria was playing.

On the back of my program I plan to put a special picture of my mom and I. I am not sure what I will be writing yet, but there will definitely be a written tribute as well.

Is it inappropiate( sp? ) for us to put something about my fiancee's mom on the invitation? Where would you suggest?

Thanks for all your help.
