Remembering what is important

Remembering what is important

Sorry to be the downer tonight, but I heard a bit of advice tonight that I really felt the need to share:

I had to go to a funeral today for one of my best friend's brother - he was 51 years old - way too young to die. My friend's wife (the SIL of the man who died) was asking me how the wedding planning is going and said:

'Go home and hug Joe - don't take ANY moment for granted - even when you feel like you can't stand him any. It's all over too fast - don't rush anything.'

It made me stop and think that I spend a lot of time hoping next November gets here quickly instead of just enjoying every moment I have with FH. Whether we are officially married or not, I am blessed by every moment we spend together.

Like I said - sorry to be the downer - it was just a rough day emotionally and I felt like I needed to share.

Re: Remembering what is important

You are NOT being a downer. What your friend's wife said is absolutely true. I think we ALL take life and the one's we love for granted sometimes. It's just human nature. But we do need to stop and say a simple 'thank you' or 'I love you' every now and then. That doesn't just go for your FH or DH but for anyone you hold near and dear. Lately I've been so wrapped up in wedding planning and making sure that everything turns out the right way that i haven't even given my mom or my bridal party a quick thank you for being so cooperative. I have heard horror stories with brides dealing with some miserable BM or parents or even inlaws. I haven't had to deal with any of that and it's not until i'm posting this now that i just realized that a 'thank you' hasn't even left my mouth to my BM or mom.

Thank you for posting this cause it's so easy for ppl to forget the small things and they only seem to remember when it's brought to their attention or when it's too late.

I actually have a few phone calls to make tomorrow to give that 'Thank you' that i so convieniently forgot to give

We should all embrace every day, because we never know what will happen tomorrow. We need to enjoy this time of our lives with our FH's, because when times get tough, this will be what we look back on. The merging of 2 hearts and 2 people together is such a special time.

absolutely - let's turn this into a positive.

I am going to try to make my new year's resolution to be not to get so caught up in the wedding planning and the parties surrounding it because it's really about people - not just FH and I but our families and friends who are there to support us.

Thanks for posting this :) FH has been an annoying pain in my butt the last few days, but I love him anyway! And she's right, it is all over too quick, so we should enjoy every moment whether we are happy, or getting on each others nerves
