renaissance of astoria

okay i have 328 days 5 hours and 44 mins until my wedding and i still haven't chosen a reception location, my fmil is going bananas. but i think i have it narrowed down to 3 possible locations which are so different from each other . what i am ultimately looking for is a place that is both conveniently located and novel or different.
we are going to look at Renaissance of astoria today and we looked at autuns of queens and betty's catering last weekend. i came so close to leaving my deposit but then just had 'commitment issues' when it came to betty's. mainly i love the inside but the outside is so residential, albeit a decent residential area but still. and with autun's everything is okay but i just don't like the 'feel' of the place. my fh thinks i'm procrastinating on purpose but i think you just know when you walk in the door that this is the place.

did anyone here not have that feeling when they booked but booked anyway?

also has anyone been to a wedding at renaissance of astoria how does it work with split levels?

thats one of the few halls in astoria i havent been to. MOST halls in astoria i will say are not that great BUT ive been hearing alot of great things about renaissance of astoria, even one of our vendors said they did an event there recently and how great it was. I think they had redone it not long ago or something, not even sure.

while i am an astoria girl and LOOOVE astoria, amazing restaurants, great nightlife. One of their strong points is NOT their RH's. Most are very old BUT there has been absolutely no updating

to the OP: are you looking to stick with queens? if so whitestone, bayside and howard beach has better ones

Re: renaissance of astoria

My ex-SIL got married there back in 2005 and surprisingly it was very nice. I didn't like the outside surroundings but inside it was nice,. Guests were seated upstairs and downstairs and the bridal party came down the stairs while all the groomsmen greeted them at the bottom of the steps and led them to the middle of the floor. The only other thing that was a turn off was, there was no set place to take pics. It was a disaster trying to crowd together at the top of the stairs(by the front door) to take pics and trying to keep guest from walking through. If you plan on having a ceremony on site this also takes away form the BIG grand entrance because once the ceremony was over, the bride and groom along with the bridal party went back up the stairs to then be introduced to come BACK down the stairs.

IMO i wouldn't use this place for a wedding but would definitely use it for an anniversary party or other special event.

Okay so we did visit Renaissance. the menu was great but we felt that the set up of the space would be too hectic for 200 people and not intimate enough. we took it back to Brooklyn for paradise catering nice but felt a little old school, although the price was incredible for 200 people under our budget and its inclusive.

i guess i'll reconsider my original top 3 in addition to paradise.

i wish choosing a RH was a simple as choosing a mate LOL

I live 10 blocks away from Renaissance, so it was one of the places we checked out. For their pricing i felt we could do a lot better all around. Thats just my opinion, but the menu, and outside 'decor' really was not what i was looking for . Plus they look very new and are still 'ironing out the kinks' There are literally TONS of places...check the inn at new hyde park

Don't feel bad

I saw 19 halls before deciding on THE ONE.

My RH was like number 7 on the list but didn't choose it right away cause I felt like I might be jumping into it. So I saw a lot more halls and did some research that only confirmed my feelings about my RH.

In the end I booked about 2 weeks ago and haven't regretted it since.
The only 2 RH I saw in Queens was Douglaston Manor & Terrace on the Park. I was going to book Douglaston but wasn't crazy about the food at the showcase and when the BM wouldn't schedule me a tasting of their entrees (only CH food was at the show case and it wasnt impressive)... I felt I coulnd't take a risk.

It may not hit you right away but you'll know whats right in the end.

I absolutely LOVED the Metropolitan Building in and the Foundry in LIC. I wish I got married at either one, but the catering and all other things were missing out so we went to LI.
