Renaissance of Astoria (or similarly priced venues)

I recently called Renaissance of Astoria, I was happy with the price range and once I got off the phone with someone from the venue, I began to google.

After reading several reviews I am coming to the conclusion that the outside of the venue is not all that nice and that you can get more (menu options ) for the same amount ($70-100 per person) at similarly situated venues (Price, location, etc)

Does anyone have any other venues that they suggest I can look into (between $80-$100 per person, open bar, modern decor).

It doesn't have to only be in Long Island/Queens, but I would prefer a place with a lot of space to take pictures. I am excited about this place, but would also like to continue my search, maybe I'll find something better.

Maybe the Metropolitan on Long Island? Very modern decor though not sure about the space for pictures.

Valentino's on the Green in Queens looks really nice but don't know about pricing/decor!

Re: Renaissance of Astoria (or similarly priced venues)

You can see my photos in albums, i had engagement party at Renaissance and I almost cancelled the week before! European owners and come off very rude, party was about 140 guests and we paid about $10,000 for the party. Wording and contracts are very sneaky, the day of the party i decorated everything!!! and i mean everything MYSELF with FH. The only reason why I booked this venue was for the room, I fell in love with the layout of the hall and kept begging my dad to pay to have it there. They are sneaky and EVERYTHING is extra. I ended up buying my own chair sashes cheaper online, my own flowers i pout together, my own menus, my own placecards, centerpieces, I even bought the chinese lanterns myself and hung them myself. They wanted crazy amounts of money for them to do these things. bottom line, party was amazing but only because of the amounts of work I put into it with FH. the night of, the food was just OK, some guests dinenrs were forgotten about (kids left with no meals for a while) and half of the guests beef dishes were undercooked and brought back and redone. Let Down venue but my uncle booked their a few years earlier and the service was amazing, we didnt realize they changed ownership recently and so my family understood this and saw that it wasnt my fault. I chose this venue from seeing it at my uncles party 2 years prior and it was amazing, but since the ownership change it is really bad. BEWARE.
