Anyone paying high rent? Feeling like you can pay a mortgage instead? I feel like that but I really can't buy nothing for another 1 in a half..

Re: Rent
No. We live in Brooklyn so rent isn't cheap but with all the extra costs of owning a house such as insurance, water, etc. and the high cost of houses we definitely couldn't get a huse right now. So we're going to fix up this apartment, new bedroom set, new living room furniture, kitchen table, carpeting etc. then we can just live here for a few more years.
We rent and it's amazing how much you pay for absolutely nothing (we live in tiny studio in manhattan). FH hates renting, and would love to buy something, but for a 1 bedroom apartment here it's completely insane.

Re: Rent
I pay high rent but my apartment is very big.. but we also pay the cable, electric and gas.. so it's like I am paying a mortgage

Re: Rent
YES its RIDICULOUS, I hate it! Unfortunately though we can't afford a house. The mortgage payment WOULD be higher, and on top of that, we would have to pay a high cost to commute to the city. It really stinks

Re: Rent
Im still at home with my parents and only give them a little money each month to help pay my school loans, so I am lucky until next year when FH and I get our own place.

Re: Rent
I literally just went to the rental office and signed a lease for FH and me...he'll move in November....and I'll move in March when we get married...
we want a house and not to pay rent, but it just isn't doable.

Re: Rent
Most people pay so much in rent that it is equal to an average mortgage payment-- however, to get a house, you need more than just the mortgage payment. People need to have a hefty down payment, good credit background and be pre approved and/or qualify for a loan... A lot of people cannot do all that is required, besides just the montly payment... someone also mentioned the insurance, taxes, water, misc bills that come along with owning a house... all of that are good reasons why people pay rent rather than get a house, whether by choice or not... i have a lot of friends who cannot 'escape' the cycle of renting. But I'm sure if you really want to do it, with some hard work, you'll be able to!!! Some people prefer renting-- it all depends on who you are

Re: Rent
I am very fortunate, by mortgage is $100 more than when i use to rent. And because its a co-op not outside extras to pay. My insurance basically replaces my rental insurance.
