RENTING A DRESS??? Is that totally obsure?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of renting my bridal dress since I am already spending so much for a traditional thai dress being custom made for a traditional ceremony.

I'd like to wear a white dress for the reception and was looking to see if anyone on the board has rented their dress or knows of anyone who has done this.

I was going to look at Macys Bridal. Anyone visit them?

It depends how much you are will ing to spend on a rented dress or a new cheeper one. Check davids bridal. Also who would know that it was worn before and is being rented. Just dont tell anyone. Good Luck

LOL,

Yeah I didnt think it was a great idea either. I might try something else to cut cost.

A new dress vs a rented one might actually cost the same if I am not too picky.

thanks for the advice

I know someone that rented their dress and the price was just as much as a new one from a place like David's.

I know the feeling about the custom made Asian dresses, I'm waiting for mine nervously and because of the materials they are costly.

Good Luck

Check Watters & Watters, they have some very nice wedding dresses for under $1000, and others a little bit more than that. I got my gown from them, and I am spending only $460 in total with fittings.

good luck!

I know 2 people that did the renting of the dress. they loved it because it wasnt going to sit in a closet for the rest of there lives and it saved them a little extra money. They said they had no regrets about renting there dress

Beautiful Bride in Lynbrook has a sample rack of gowns for as low as $50.00...one of my BM's bought her wedding gown their off the sample rack for $25.00 over the summer during their season change. SHe is on Merrick Road across from the SHELL station. It's worth a look, you might spend more than a few hundred even renting! (And check out EBAY. LOTS of designer gowns.!!!

I would also add visit Estelle's in Farmingdale. The last time I went I recall a rack of clearance dresses for under $600. And the others are pretty reasonable too.

I have some friends who were on a tight budget who ended up going upstate and to Conn. to get their dress and were able to find great dresses for under 500$ (these were the same dresses they were seeing on LI for more than 1000)

Just my two cents too. You might also check out bridesmaid dresses in white. Honestly, some of them you can hardly tell the difference between a bridal gown (especially if you are looking for a more 'straight' gown, without the poofy ballroom gown look. I almost bought a Watters & Watters BM dress as a bridal gown because i was looking for something very simple.

Also, once you figure out what you want, check out netbride.com. They are awesome to work with a you save lots of $$$$. Good luck!

If you're not the kind of person who's going to get all emotional and attached to your dress, I don't see anything wrong with renting one.
There's a place in Manhattan that rents out all the high end designers. I never checked them out, but I did consider it.

If I was that kind of girl, I'd choose spending $500 (or whatever it is) to rent and wear a $5000 for 10 hours as opposed to a brand new one that will just end up in the closet anyway, after the day is done.
Something to consider as well: I don't know how formal your wedding is, but if it's going to be really formal, a white bridesmaids dress might not do the trick.

I would try David's bridal as well...

I had a girlfriend that rented a dress YEARS ago, it was a shop on Jericho turnpike and they 'fitted' and clean the dress for her, yes I said 'fitted' and delivered it to her house the day before!

She looked beautiful and so did the dress, that also included the headpiece and whatever went underneath.

The sole purpose of renting a dress is 1) you are not spending a bundle on a dress you will only be in for 5 hours and 2) you will most likely be wearing a dress you couldn't afford to purchase in the first place.

Good Luck!!

I got my dress for under $400.
No one could ever have guessed. It was beautiful.
Try Angel bridals in East Islip and Estelles in farmingdale.
You don't have to spend a lot to look fantastic!
