Report from Ch. 4 news- Have a FREE wedding- through SPONSORSHIPS??
Did anyone else see this report this morning? It was about how couples are now paying 'next to nothing' for their dream reception through sponsorships?? What they are doing is going around to different vendors and bartering- they will get the vendor's services for free in exchange for advertising- AT THEIR WEDDING!! During the reception this one couple had ads of the different vendors placed on every table and around the hall. They gave out T-shirs with all of the sponsor's logos to all of the guests. They also had the DJ (during the reception) do commercials for the different vendors!! SO my question to you... is it worth it to pay 'next to nothing' for your dream wedding, but have it so commercialized??
IMO- Props to the smart couple who came up with this, but to me this is-- TACKY, TACKY, TACKY!

I agree, I have heard this beign done before, but too tacky for me to to have my vendors name on everything. I draw my line at the Dj booth's sign. No have am I going to have signs of te vendors business cards

I couldn't agree more. Everything I've read regarding etiquette frowns on sponsorship. I don't think that Etiquette is outdated, I believe that manners are your way of showing that you care about the people you're with (sorry, I stole that from a Brendan Fraser movie, but it is true). Aren't we solicited enough these days?

WOW! This is part of the Fundraising industry. Fundraisers like myself, do this for non-profit special events, where guests expect to see company logos and such, but I never thought of doing a wedding this way! FYI to those who are thinking of doing this, it's not that simple and is time consuming.

. I draw my line at the Dj booth's sign.
I made it perfectly clear to the DJ's I spoke with that even the sign is unacceptable to me, and for this exact reason - I don't advertise for ANYONE (won't even carry a bag with a logo!) Just my quirk, so no, there's no way I'd do it.

My hair stylist was actually interviewed for that story. She explained to me that it is very popular in other states... not in NY though. She asked me if I knew anyone who had done something like that... and I could not think of a single time that I had seen anything like it (except for at bars and premieres). I would not do it... our wedding would look like a bridal expo!

Mostly I agree... but I am very used to 'sponsored' weddings.. but not by VENDORS. We always sponsor family weddings (tho somehow since im too far, it's not happening for me )
Family memebers 'sponsor' certain things. In return they get bragging rights and put into the program.
