Repost BHB - FMIL...ugh...

Ok...advise is needed...
My FH is my FMIL pride and joy. He also has two sisters, but FMIL does not throw them up on a pedistal like she does FH. She calls him....'My Son'...'My Son'... ugh...it makes me sick sometimes. ANYWAY...reason I'm posting is I need some advice. We are not doing the Father/Daughter dance nor are we doing the Mother/Son dance. The reason for this is I am not close with my Dad and would feel really uncomfortable. FH has no problem with this either. So...here comes the question...do we tell her now that we're not doing these dances or do we just not say anything and she'll find out that day?
Things to keep in mind before everyone starts thinking I'm a cold hearted B*#&^ is...
1. He was married before...did the whole Mother/Son dance thing at that wedding. If he wasn't married before and never did that I would have danced with my Dad for her.
2. Both of his Sisters did not dance with their Dad at their weddings because they're not close with him too.

I would leave it to your FH to tell his mom that there will be no mother and son dance. She may take it the wrong way if you tell her, no matter how tactful you are.

I agree and also I think you should mention this to her before the wedding day...you never know how she'll react if you tell her the day of.

I know...she's very dramatic too. She would create a huge scene I'm sure.

I would tell her now, so she is not surprised the day of.

We are not doing the father/daughter mother/son dances either. We're both fairly close to our parents, but we didn't want a lot of formal dances at the wedding--just one for us. What we are planning to do though, is invite our parents up to dance with us at the same time. FH and you might want to consider that as another option.

I would not tell her. Why deal with her drama for the next five months?!!! Maybe FH can do a special dance with FMIL during the rehearsal dinner so that way the blow will be softer when their is no dance at the wedding. I say mums the word until then.

I agree, have FH tell her before. But say is non-chalantly (sp). Like, you know this is my 2nd wedding so we aren't doing all of the traditional things.. something like that.

I would let him tell her. Definatly before the wedding. Just incase she flips out it wont be in front of 200 people.

I would definitely have your FH tell her, and I would tell her before the wedding.
