Repost from '06- Etiquette questions

Ladies...I know you all can help me.

Here goes. A childhood friend of mine is getting married in July. We grew up on the same block (and BOTH still live there) and though we were very close in childhood, we eventually grew to just casual acquaitences, though both of our sisters married into the same family.

So, I was invited to both the shower and the wedding. I definitely don't mind going at all, but FH doesn't know her and DOES NOT want to go. He said I can go w/o him . He is under the impression ( and this will sound horrible, but we have been fleeced this past month with gift giving) that if I go by myself that we can get away with giving a smaller gift. Normally he is not like this, but he doesn't know them at all really (met the bride only a few times- he knows her younger sister better) and I don't even know the groom...anyway, is that true? Can I get away with giving a smaller gift if I go solo? I will also be getting her a gift from the registry.

The other thing is- like I said our sisters married into the same family, and both FH and I are closer to younger sister. We would like to invite them to our wedding, but we really can't invite anyone else, which I think will upset the older, less known, sister.

1) Is it wrong to go to her wedding knowing I will probably not be able to invite her to mine?

2) can I invite her younger sister and not her?

Help ladies...I am in trouble. (bridal shower is Saturday)

TIA

Here is JMO:
You cannot invite her sister to your wedding and not invite her. THat is actually a bit hurtful, seeing that she invited you to her wedding.

You should go to the wedding and have a nice time. You can give a smaller gift if you go alone as long as you RSVP that only one person is going.
