repost from 06 - which would you rather?

repost from 06 - which would you rather?

ok - fh and i have run into a small problem with hotels. i am getting married @ leonards - and they recommend the great neck inn.

the place is literally 1/2 a mile away and very nice - but they want $179 a night (which was a little more than i had anticipated for my guests) - but i said whatever and planned on booking them. they sent me a contract with all the BS fees - $12 a night for parking, no shuttle service, and the cards you put in the invites - they provide double your room block - and sfter that they charge $2 a piece!!!

so i am a big person pf prinicipal and was a little flipped off by these dumb charges - so i looked for a new hotel.

we went today to the adria hotel and conference center - who was charging $119 a night - free parking, free invite things, but still no shuttle - except they will block the rooms for us in the ramada next door. the place looked like they should charge by the hour! the bathroom sink was next to the bed!! the toilet didnt have a tank!! the room was so small and cramped!! it wasnt dirty or anything - but it was just so....i dunno....not the great neck inn.

anyway - here is my question - since this looks like a case of 'you get what you pay for' - if you were going to stay somewhere after a wedding would you rather pay more and get a posh place - or pay less and look at it just as a place to crash for a night?? i am not sure what i want to do...need some opinions....

Can you give both as an option? I, so long as I have the $$, prefer the nicer, but if I was low on cash, would prefer the cheaper option and understand it was the cheaper of the two and that's why it's not as nice.

ETS: I agree that those additional charges are ridiculous - but you can just buy card stock and print out the info yourself.

IMO People always appreciate having options. I would let them decide.

I would rather pay more then it looking like a pay by the hour place, I don't want to put a quarter in my bed and hang out in the heart shape tub...

I personally wouldn't give that kind of place as an option...

Maybe is there other options you can look into??

That is a better deal for the OOT'ers and maybe you can just provide a taxi bus there and back?

Good luck whatever you decide!

IMO you should block both and give people the choice. bb

I'm sorry, but i wouldn't give people those options!!! The nice hotel sounds great and the price isn't all that bad.

But the OTHER place sounds horrible and i would never suggest that to anyone!! Plus you have to realize that everywhere is different. Price is relative and some people might go for the $117 (or whatever it is) thinking its not that bad. But once they see it... they might pissed about coming all this way to be stuck in a hooker motel. JMO

I'd keep looking for an additional place. You always want to give your guests options of where to stay and the different prices. But remember... they're going on your recommendation and don't pick anywhere that you wouldn't stay in yourself.

I prefer options. For example, my friend near Rochester got married and blocked rooms at this beautiful hotel. She also gave us information about other hotels, including a microtel that was under $50 per night! It was clean, and that's all we cared about - all we did was sleep there. Others may prefer more luxury...

If I'm coming from OOT and not familiar with the area, I would prefer to spend alittle more and be comfortable.

I'd just book someplace else altogether. The Great Neck Inn is too expensive, and the other place is not offering a 'Get what you pay for' price. My guests paid about the same amount for a MUCH NICER ROOM than what you're describing.

this is just my opinion, but I probably wouldn't choose either one. the first one is ridiculously over priced and the 2nd I could never see myself offering to my guests who spent a fortune just to come to NY for my wedding. there are other hotels on LI. and people will be renting cars.

good luck!

ETA: I blocked off 20 rooms at the Huntington Hilton for $109 a night! I negotiated, see if you can do the same.

I agree. But I would also see if there are other options out there-nice hotels that will work with you and offer decent rates.

The last thing I need is to be an OOT guests at a low rate hotel.
