repost from 07: do you give the usher a gift?

A good friend of mine will be an usher... she likely won't attend the rehearsal dinner that friday (becuase she's an OOt'er and likely will be working a full day and traveling in the evening).

Should I get her a gift? I feel like I should, but I don't even know when I'd give it to her. I intend to give her a corsage to wear, but I'm thinking about a light shawl or scarf....

what are you doing?

When I was an usher in a friends' weddings, I got the same gift as the Bridesmaids (and also had a corsage).

Re: repost from 07: do you give the usher a gift?

sigh, this is exactly the problem...
I received 2 resonses so far, one usher got the same gift as the BM's, and the other usher received nothing!

I don't know what to do.... especially since I don't even know when to give her the gift.... I'll see her first at the church!

Re: repost from 07: do you give the usher a gift?

interesting topic...i didn't even think about giving a gift to the ushers!!! I don't feel right about giving them the same gift as the BP- we're spending over 100$ on them each- maybe we'll get the ushers something smaller....

Re: repost from 07: do you give the usher a gift?

I can't give the same thing.... I gave the BM's a gold necklace, and my usher has allergies to gold and silver alloys... she can't wear jewelry with any metal.

I also don't think the usher gift should be that large, since she doesn't have to buy an outfit or take off from work, book a hotel, and get here a day early for a rehearsal...

I was thinking of getting her a dressy silk shawl... after all, she'll be standing by the door, and if it's a cooler june day, it might be drafty...

anne klein shawl

Re: repost from 07: do you give the usher a gift?

I think you should give her a gift. Something a bit smaller because her responsibilities are not as great (and she prob didn't spend as much money on a dress, shoes, hair, etc).
I think that shawl is a great idea. It's beautiful. Is there anyone you know that will be able to see her the morning of? Is there anyone you could trust it with? You said she was an OOTer, is she staying in a hotel the night before? Can you leave it with the front desk for when she checks in? Worse comes to worse I guess you could always mail it to her if you cant come up with any other solution and you aren't going to see her before the day of your wedding.

ok, so I bought the shawl.... the problem is she is a friend from grade school and will therefore come to LI late friday night and stay at her parents house... and then come directly to the church that morning. I guess since she'll be on program and bubble duty, I can pack the gift with the bubbles

Mom will bring those to the church...

Shawl is a great idea!

WHen I was an usher, I did have to buy a dress (really cool black and white one) and did hair/makeup with the bridal party soo it was a little different.
