Repost from '07 - Hotel Block Question

Currently I blocked rooms at 2 hotels. One has a rate of $159 a night, but includes full breakfast, shuttle to and from the reception hall, and we rented a hospitality room for an after party. The other hotel is $129 a night, and includes continental breakfast only. I want everyone to book at the first hotel because of the shuttle and hospitality suite, but I blocked rooms at the second hotel because of the rate.

Anyway, should I include a separate card in my STDs that lists what's included at each hotel (I know most of my friends will want to take the shuttle and not worry about a ride)? Or should I spread it by word of mouth? Or should I only include information about the $159/night hotel in the STDs, and if anyone inquires about cheaper hotels I can give them the info for the $129? FH thought maybe we should rent a shuttle for the second hotel, but then I'm worried people will stay there and miss the after party. Plus we already have a shuttle to one hotel - I don't want to have to book a separate one.

Thanks!

imo, i would use the one w/ the higher rate.
if guests ask about a less expensive alternative, u can give them the info of the other one, but then u shouldnt be responsible for their transportation.

it is totally reasonable to want everyone to stay where the shuttle, etc is included.

My friend did this and mentioned in her Save the Date something to the effect that the bride and groom were staying at the more expensive hotel so if you wanted to hang out with them after the wedding, you could stay there (I think they mentioned something about 'partying the night away' or something to that affect).

Nobody stayed at the less expensive hotel.

ETA: Or I would just mention the more expensive one and if someone asks, let them know about the cheaper alternative.

ETA: You could also note that the more expensive hotel is the 'recommended' one.

Since you really want people to stay at the more expensive hotel I would just put that one on your STD. If anyone asks if there is a cheaper place they can stay at them mention the other.

I'm doing the same thing and i was going to mention both so people aren't discouraged. I'm not worried about the higher rate for family, but friends and co-workers are going to really appreciate the lower rate (i know, it's only $30...)

Also, if you blocked the rooms, why not tell everyone? I agree that you should note the more expensive one as recommended or preferred
