repost from 09: long island inspiration

trying to get some LI inspired ideas. Can you share what things you think of when you think of living on long island?

I know thats broad but it can be anything. I need placecard, favor and oot bag ideas with a little long island theme... any ideas?

Wine
Lighthouse
Beach
NYC from a distance
LIRR
Parks
Long Island Duck (in Flanders out east)
Outlets

Billy Joel.

I know Billy Joel can't be physically incorporated into the party (well I guess he could, but that would be rather difficult !)

But I would suggest a LOT of Billy Joel music. If your guests know Joel well maybe you could get some humorous items to display? A 'Piano Man' or 'the Village Green' for starters.

Some of mine were taken, but i'll add

North fork potato chips
Fishing / Boats / Ferries / Piers
Pumpkin picking / farms out on the island
The Long Island Expressway
Islanders / Nassau Colosseum
Hamptons / expensive houses where celebrities live/visit
Roosevelt Field Mall / Tanger outlets

Maybe you can name tables after towns or points of interest on long island?

eta: we were thinking OOT bags to include LI wine, the North fork potato chips, LI fruits or pies made from briemier farms (st james) and do a pamphlet of 'things we like to do on LI' so that OOT guest who have time can go exploring the island as a mini vacation while they are here. Many are coming from as far away as arizona so they will probably appreciate it.
