repost from 2010: marriage license question...

does anyone know if it HAS to be an original copy of your birth certificate? fh and i may have a problem that we just realized... he is in the middle of an adult adoption process with the family that took him in a few years ago when his biological mother died, and his original has been mailed away with other documents he had to send in. he only has a copy...

I believe it does have to be originals or the official copy with the raised seal.

You don't need a birth certificate at all if you go in the 5 boroughs. Maybe it would be worth your time to just do that?

Don't forget to pre-register online so it's all filled out if you do. It makes the process really very simple. All you need is your driver's license.
