This makes me mad. We are back to; Hey I am a bride -- please just KEEP ON STICKING IT TO ME! Have you ever seen those news stories where they call a place and say that they want to rent a hall or get flowers for an anniversary party of X number people and it is one price but then they call back and say wedding and the price doubles!
I am feeling particularly hateful of these nonsense service charges and suggested gratuities. IMO-->gratuities are earned and not suggested. If you do a good job you will be tipped very very handsomely -- I get that this is a part of you livelihood and I respect that but the words MANDATORY GRATUITY IS AN OXYMORON!

makes me annoyed to even give it, when otherwise not ASKED for, I probably would have been more generous!

Yup...i am really not sure what do do when that time comes. i have included tips in my budget, but will see if the vendors deserve them after their service.

the limo thing bugs me- i am not paying a tip IN ADDITION to a mandatory gratuity. my company's clients do not tip me in addition to my salary, do they?

the mandatory gratuity (plus expected tip) bugged me too, until i called my hall and the owner told me that the staff tips are included in the gratuity.

i'm not heartless...i do feel bad for the people whose salaries come from tips, but at the same time, 30% of my wedding budget cannot go to tips. that is insane.

AMEN!!!!

This is soooo frustrating. I am a good tipper but I really resent all of the mandatory gratuties esp since the money often does not go to the staff esp in the halls. Very very annoying and frustraing not to mention unjust to all involved (except the ppl in charge who are rich already!). TY, that was my gripe of the day

Amen! I am a pretty generous person when it comes to tipping until I am told HOW much I am supposed to tip or that I am supposed to tip onto of a gratuity chagre. It sort of sends my horns right up. My reception hall was the only place I went to that actually told us the maitre d gratuity was completely our decision and depentant upon the job that was done. Every other hall had it in their contracts.

Perhaps we should remind vendors that T.I.P.S. styands for 'To Insure Proper Service' and they are earned... never once in my waitressing days did anyone give me a tip before I took their order, or during the meal... I received what I received based upon the service. I'm sticking to this idea regarding my vendors... sorry but gratuities are not mandatory they are earned!

This is getting too complicated and expensive. I want to tip a vendor how much I think they desetve based not only on the service that day. I also consider how attentive they were while I was planning and if I called with questions were they receptive. However, I will probably have all my tip amounts ready a few weeks before the ceremony so I won't be bothered with that at the wedding. So far with the photographer,video, officiant have not asked for any gratuities in their price. Although I have heard horror stories about the other vendors (limo,florists)
