We actually spoke to several TA's while searching on-line and found that we got a better deal on-line.

We booked our HM ourselves through Expedia.

Me too! We booked through Expedia for flights and then booked directly with hotel.

We booked our HM on our own too. We used resources such as expedia and tripadvisor and since we knew exactly where we wanted to go, it wasn't that hard. We actually never use a TA when booking any trips. I like to do research on my own about hotels and read reviews from others who stayed there rather than rely on a TA opinion. Just do your research.

Personally, I would not do that. Your honeymoon is possibly one of the biggest and undoubtedly most exciting vacation you will take. I would much rather use a TA because: a. They book honeymoons all the time so they know which places are good for couples, romance and whatever else a specific couple is looking for. b. They have many connections in the industry so they can get good deals also. c. They have insight into the places we are going and can recommend different excursions, restaurants, etc. to us. They can also tell you what to avoid. d. It's time consuming to do all the research yourself. A TA is a resource him/herself. All the research is done for you already as far as hotels and locations are concerned. Obviously, if you want to do some specific activity, you may have to research the best option for you but they may be able to make recommendations. e. Most importantly, if there are any problems, I know exactly who to call to straighten it out. Travel problems happen frequently. I want to know that I can call a live body and get the situation resolved right away.
My TA is awesome and I definitely couldn't have planned a better HM to Costa Rica without her.

Same for us...we saved $2K by doing it on line.

We booked our whole HM online. We're going to Hawaii for 2 weeks. I had a book called Hawaii for dummies that I read and tagged some things I found interesting and then FH researched them online through TripAdvisor and other travel sites. I know we saved money on booking some stuff in advance but we book all our trips ourselves so we never even considered a travel agent.

we always book our own trips -- but for our HM we decided to book with a travel agent. we wanted to know there was someone we could contact in the event something went wrong with the travel plans. we used a travel agent that was a friend of my parents and he eneded up findin additional discounts to apply to our HM through the cruiseline. so for us it worked out. hope that helps

we did! And our HM is really complicated... we're going to athens, then 2 different cities in crete, then santorini. we're taking planes, buses, and ferries.... I used several major websites....
I highly recommend tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews. you get candid comments about every hotel.... and if you use their search engine, it checks 5 major online sites for the pricing and availability of the hotel you want. Genius!
I purposely AVOID travel agents.... simply becuase they know what 'people' like.... not necessarily what WE like. Everyone is different. Why go through the effort of trying to convey your preferences and needs when you can book yourself and get EXACTLY what you want, and if you're a savy traveler like me, at a better price?
we're having a very unique HM at an amazing price. 10 days in greece for under $4500 in june
