repost from BHB: Please help me feed FH!

ok, so i just posted on 2010 board that we got our first apartment. We won't move in for a few weeks because we have to paint and get carpet and actually now buy furniture (thank you engagement party) for it. But i am starting to freak out a little.

I know how to cook for myself (hello 30 years old but like pasta, eggs, easy stuff) but i have never made any big meals like chicken, steak, etc. I just realized i will have to feed FH like the first week we are there (and after of course)

*Does anyone have any easy recipes or advice??? Any ideas on what to make???*

Someone bought the slowcooker off my registry which I am so grateful for but how can i prevent him from starving the first few weeks til I learn and get used to using a gas oven (have electric at home)??? Healthy recipes/WW especially welcome because we need to stick to our diets for the wedding. At least if we starve for the first 6 weeks we will be good for the wedding.

Thanks so much girls!!!!

def use the slow cooker...you can make a meal while you are at work...and then there is usually plenty left over for the next day for lunch or even dinner

i have a great recipe for turkey chili if you're interested

you can have it as is...

or with rice

or as filling for tacos

and it's healthy

slow cooker is a no brainer...get a pot roast, pork roast and throw some chicken or beef broth in there...potatoes, carrots, salt pepper

and let it cook for 10 hours...simple and delish!

Stir fry is healthy and easy to make. You can do it with beef, chicken, or shrimp.

You saute the meat first with a little oil and I usually have garlic too. Then take that out and put aside, and add the veggies. You can get a mix frozen bag of stir fry, or use fresh veggies. Cook and put the meat back in and add the stir fry sauce.

They have stir fry packets you can make a mix, or just use soy sauce or a terakyi sauce. Mix it up. I like to make a spicy mix.

Roast beef is easy to make. Get an eye round or other cut and poke little holes in it. Cover it with onion seasoning, garlic, a little salt and pepper, and a little bit of cinnamon (this makes it AWESOME!)

Use a meat therm, so you know when it's done. Put it on a roasting rake (if you dont have one it's ok, but it is helpful to have) Very easy!

************************************************************

Do you have a George Foreman grill? You could make burgers or steak or grilled chicken on that.

You could try Rachel Ray's 30 mins cookbook.

I usually look on LIfamlies.com at their food board for recipes. I never follow recipes though. I always add my own things to it.

*******************************************************

Tacos are easy and fun. Same with fajitas. You could use chicken, or ground beef, or ground turkey. Brown the meat..Add a taco seasoning sauce or fajita. Then you get all your sides that you like. We love taco night!

I cook all the time and love it, so any questions or any recipes you want let me know.

FH says I make really good stuffed peppers, pork chops, roast beef, tacos/fajitas/enchiladas/stir fry, roasted chicken. So if you want those recipes let me know. I also can give you recipes for meatballs, meatloaf, or this salsa dish that we love and it's very simple. FM me :)

Chicken cutlets are easy. You can bake them instead of frying them. Use Panko breadcrumbs ( a little healthier)

Or you can take chicken cutlets and marinate them in Italian dressing or seasoning and bake them. healthy, easy, quick, and yummy.

There was a post on here about Cruncy Ranch Chicken...so delish

Mix crushed corn flakes, a ranch packet, parm cheese.
Spray chicken cutlets w butter flavored pam and cover with mixture.
Bake for 30-40 minutes.
SUPER easy and sooooooo good

Also meatloaf is very easy

Mix ground beef or turkey with1 egg, chopped onion, italian breadcrumbs, and salt and pepper to taste. Mold the meat into a mealoaf form.
Mix ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar for the sauce. Pour the sauce on top and bake. Soo easy

Another one of my favorites is stuffed chicken breasts!!

Sautee an onion with spinach, or use frozen spinach. When done add ricotta cheese (can also add sun dried tomatoes). Slice thick chicken breast in the center forming a pocket. Stuff mixure in chicken and stick a toothpick in the open side to hold it shut during cooking. Put the chicken and your favorite italian red sauce in a baking pan. Cook about 40minutes.
Love that recipe!

I just started cooking as well. It's so much easier than I ever thought it would be!
