Repost from Homeboard: Sick Tree question

We have a tree in our front lawn........a HUGE tree (I believe it's some type of maple), and I believe it is diseased......the leaves all look like they have little holes in them, the bark is constantly peeling off and it begins shedding HORRIBLY in June. Just last week, we raked 5 bags of leaves just from this one tree, and it's not even autumn yet.

Anyone know who I could call to find out information about whether or not the tree is diseased and how to cure it? Any idea of the cost of this? And how about pruning this tree......do you know how much something like that goes for?

Thanks!

Call this guy. He is a total psycho but very very good at what he does. He is an arborist who could save it or trim or chop it down. He's very straight forward and honest. His name is John and his number is 783-6693. Tell him Matt and Maureen from Bellmore sent you.

Good luck

I never knew there was a home board- i thought it would take me back to the home page so I never clicked on it- cool.

Yea- get the tree checked out- not sure it would be covered under your homeowners insur if it falls on the house or car or person

It depends on high the tree is and how many limbs there are if he removes it. He does his estimates early in the morning (like 7am) and leaves them in your mailbox. If you want to try and save it, he could do that too.

Marni, the tree could just have a really bad tree fungus, or it could have a tree cancer.

We had a sick tree on our front lawn (we have Sycamores). Earlier in the season, hubby called a local tree service (North Country), and they came and injected some medicine into the tree's root system and then pruned away the dead branches for us for $125. The tree is 100% better now, and we are so glad we did not lose the tree in the yard.
Good luck - I hope you can save it, rather than cutting it down!
