Repost From Theme: Baseball Infusion

Hey ladies...

I posted this same thread on the Theme board, but figured I could use you 06 gals to take a look and see if you can come up with some ideas as well:

FH is a huge sports fanatic, and even bigger baseball fanatic. We both have passion for baseball, and the NY Yankees. I want to infuse some baseball or Yankee baseball (history) into the reception. I don't want the entire reception to come off as a blue and white pin striped affair (our colors are already chosen - pink, actually). How can I infuse something we both love in a classy way?

ie - In lieu of table #s use baseball player names...or every table would be named after a stadium w/ a cool/vintage black and white photo of that ball park...any other suggestions?

TIA!

Sounds like you're going to need a Yankees garter to throw. (I found mine on Ebay) FH is also a big Yankee fan.

Some ideas: Have a grooms cake in the shape of Yankee Stadium

Maybe have a picture of him made into a baseball card to put on your guest book table

Maybe you could make up the menus to associate with baseball terms. IE Appetizer could be called 'The Starting Lineup' instead and the Intermezzo could be called 'The Seventh Inning Stretch' and the entree choices could be 'The Grand Slam'

I actually brought up to FH that we should see if we could borrow home plate from Yankee Stadium for the ceremony to stand next to. He thought I was nuts, but maybe your FH would like this idea!!

My FH would absolutely LOVE this idea! But somehow I don't think the Yankees would part with it during October baseball.

I actually saw that done at Giorgios a few months ago when I was looking at catering halls. They were printed with the ballpark on the top, and the guests names underneath to look like a scorecard.

FI works in baseball, so I feel your pain...however, I didn't want to go nuts with incorporating it too much into the wedding b/c it would start looking a little too 'themey.'

I'm incorporating the following:
Grooms Cake of Shea Stadium
Mets Garter
As my gift to him, I am getting him 'special' tickets for a few games - in 'special' I mean owner's box...

My cousin had a Yankee themed Bar Mitzvah. His cake was an exact 3-D replica of the Stadium - not a flat cake with a picture on it, but a full-on scaled version of the stadium. I can call his mother to get the baker for you though something tells me that it was a small fortune. The place cards were tickets and each table was a player. It was neat because each generation sat at 'the player' they could most identify with. On each table was a trifolded centerpiece of the player's pictures mounted on foamcore. The kids sat with the current line-up (at the time), the older guests sat at the Mickey Mantle table, the Yogi Berra table and the Joe DiMaggio table. My generation sat at the Reggie Jackson table. The parents sat at the Thurman Munson table. It was well done, but it was for a child. I am sure you could do something like this but I would tone it down slightly.

As for me, I am going to get an 'SU' garter. That is where FH and I met for the first time. I refused to have any kind of theme (not my thing) and I surely was not going to make my colors orange and blue.
