REPOST - Jewish Brides - Chuppah

Are any of you doing the walk around the FH 7 times?
All the weddings I've been to, did it, but the more I think about it, the more I don't want to do it. I just don't like what it stands for. Like FH is the center of my universe. I love him and all.. but

What are you doin?

It stands for many things besides that.
It also signifies protecting the marriage and warding off spirits - the bride is the one who does that. I think it means some other things as well. Plus it gives people something interesting to watch besides your and his back.

However, having said that, I am not going to walk around him 7 times. I have a long veil and it's going to drag around him and get all tangled up. And I don't really want his or my mom walking behind me holding the veil - kind of demeaning.

It's a tradition, it's not a mandatory act. So do whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

I am still on the fence but strongly leaning towards not doing it. My reason is purely selfish. I'm going to be all dressed up and don't feel like circling my FI in my gown. He's Catholic and has no idea about this tradition, so he wouldn't know the difference anyway :)
