Just wondering if anyone went to the SS office in Manhattan or Brooklyn and what was your experience like? I work in the city but live in Brooklyn and didn't know which office I might have a quicker, easier experience at. I don't want to have to take a whole day off to do the change.
Has anyone gone to either of these locations?

I live in Manhattan and went to the one on 48th street between 8th and 9th. The line was long, but I didn't get there until the afternoon, so it might have been better earlier in the day. Once I got to the front it only took a couple of minutes.

I went in Bklyn, first day of the transit strike so it was quiet, BUT the guy working said they are always that quiet first thing in the morning.

I believe that according to Social Security - if you live in Brooklyn you must go to the Brooklyn office for the name change. All other NY residents can go into any SSA office to submit the paperwork.

I went to that one too. I got there at 9am and was done by 9:40. 30 minutes of that I waited on line!

yes, if you live in Bklyn then you have to go to a brooklyn branch for social security. i did everything in bklyn. passport, ss, driver's lic, whatever all in bklyn and all in half a day's worth. granted i went early but done and in no time. *i remember going to mahattan's dmv to get my permit and holy cow! took 3 hours! AND i got there at 8:30am. boy was i pissed.

I think you have to go to the one where you live.

I believe this only applies to Brooklyn. If you go in person you can go to any. I live in Queens and after a nightmare with the Flushing office I went to Merrick and they took care of me in a matter of minutes.
