Repost: Name Changing Help - Did you use a kit?

Repost from Newylwed Board...

Okay, so I'm a bad wife. We've been married almost 4 months and I keep putting off all the official name changing stuff.

I want to get it done now...

Did you use a kit?
Did you have to pay for it?
Where did you get it?
How much was it?

Thanks for the help!

I didn't use a kit. I started by going to the social security office. bring your marriage certificate. they change it in the computer, take your old card, and about 4 wks later, you have a new card. No charge.

The DMV wasn't so bad. you can get the name change forms online. I think it's $10 for a new license. if you want to change the registration, you have to bring the title and marriage license to the DMV. No charge.

For credit cards, I just called up and asked the rep to change my name. They didn't ask for proof. No charge.

I'm sure your employer has certain forms to fill out as well. Are you going under your DH's insurance? you'll have to call your provider to cancel yours and put your name on his plan.

Good luck!

I didn't use a kit. It was time consuming, going to DMV, Social Security, etc. but it's not at all difficult.

No kit, it just took me a really long time to change everything. Not a fun process. If I ever get divorced or remarried -I will NEVER change my name again
