I see ad's for this ALL the time in the pennysaver. Just wondering if anyone does it or knows of anyone that does it. Is it one of those things where you have to send in money first?

Most of the ads you see for secret shoppers are people selling information about the stores that hire secret shoppers (store names, contact info for the hiring dept, etc.) I've heard you can just call random stores and ask if they are hiring secret shoppers.

When I was in college I worked at Express. Once a week, a secret shopper would come in and rate the store. They rated whether they were greeted at the door, whether they were asked if they needed assistance, whether people gave them their names while helping them, whether the store was clean, whether they were asked to open an express card during checkout, etc. If the store got a bad rating, we;d all be in trouble. If the secret shopper mentioned the person who helped them by name in the report, that person would get a gift certificate.
The secret shoppers got paid, but they also have to buy something with their own money from the store when they shop. A lot of the times you could tell one because they'd buy like the cheapest thing in the store that no one would ever buy, just to get in and get out.

I think its a scam!!!!! I was unemployed for a while and I was looking through the pennysaver and called one of the 800 numbers offering government jobs, and after I agreed to spend $80 I looked it up on the better business bureau and the had a really really bad rep. I had to cancel my credit card!!!
