I would go. Then again I am a product of the SUNY school system as well. (Brockport) I see nothing wrong with them at all - I feel I received a great education! I think they specialize in teaching right?

I went there so I guess I'm a little biased anyway, but I know when I was there it was ranked very well - I think it was one of the top 2 SUNY schools. But, she got a scholarship? - I didn't think SUNY gave out any schlorships. Of course, I was there 10 years ago so I'm sure a lot could have changed. Congrats to your sister. BTW - I loved it there!!!!

I don't know anything about it- but teaching sounds like a terrific career. My sister is waiting on the rest of her school acceptance/rejection letters, she's holding out for Duke.

I work at a SUNY--Geneseo is one of the smaller campuses, not a center like Albany, Buffalo, Binghamton, or Stony Brook, but very good. There are different rankings for different areas of study, but it's a very good liberal arts school. I think it is less well-known outside of NY than, say, Binghamton, but I am sure it would be a good education.
ETA: I'd go with Duke.

I think its reputation is good for humanities and social science but for hard science I'd go with a university center.

SUNYs are giving out a LOT of scholarships these days! Pretty much every valedictorian, national merit scholar, Intel science winner, etc.

It's a GREAT school - it has a fantastic reputation and if your sister is thinking of teaching in New York, Geneseo will resonate very well with administrators and superintendants.

Congrats to your sister! SUNY Geneseo is a great school - my stepmom graduated from there and she loved it. Of course, that WAS a while ago too, but just wanted to share some good feedback with you
