let me start by saying i am a nyc teacher... i am the general ed teacher for a first grade ctt class. I co teach with a special ed teacher.
My wedding date is 6/27/09.. yup the DAY AFTER school ends!!!
Well obviously when I booked, i did not know that, i assumed that we would be done by Wednesday.
Now..... my principal is NUTS!!!! All the time.. just flat out crazy.
How do I ask her for the last 2 days of school off? I am planning on taking my personal days ( which I am entitled to).
I was going to say this....
I just wanted to touch base with you and remind you that, I am getting married at the end of June and I will be requesting some of my personal days for pre wedding preparations.
If she says no.. (can she?... I mean I am going to put in the request next week) am giving her more than enough time.
If she says no. which is likely....I was thinking of calling out sick... going to my doctor and telling him I am suffering from anxiety, and really sttressed out... blah blah, and get a note for the two days. My mom said he would definately do ti for me.
What do you think of this plan?
Should I just call out? Or try to do it the right way first? Remember she is not normal by any means....
This is terrible.. I feel like I can't enjoy my wedding day!!!
Thanks for your help!! And for reading this sorry this is so long.

Re: requesting off...
if she's really nasty and says no I bet she can probably put a letter in your file regarding you requesting the time off earlier and then just taking it when she said no. But I say eff it and try anyway!

Yeah I would also go to your union rep and ask what the deal is. . I know that days before vacations and holidays can be a big deal but as long as you have a dr's note it should be fine. .. but I don't know why she wouldn't let you go. . are those no kids days? you would just be doing your classroom right?
GOOD LUCK. ..
ETA . even if you get a letter in your file no one will care, and I believe you are entitled to write a reply to go along with it. . . so you can always explain it. ..

That's the first thing I thought of too, because I definitely don't assume the best of people. I don't know...I almost feel like in a situation like this you should just go the doctor route...does she know when your wedding is, and is she invited? If no to both, then who's to say that you weren't REALLY ill?

Re: requesting off...
I'm in the EXACT same boat b/c that's also my wedding day.
I'm only requesting the last day off. I am asking her personally.
Someone at work told me in our contracts you are allowed off for your own wedding. But I can't say that it was 100% true.
I'm going to ask this upcoming week to give them time.
Good Luck! If she says no to you , I would probably then take 1 day then

If you do send this email, please don't put the comma where it is.
Perhaps you could word it like this:
As we have previously discussed, this letter is an official reminder that due to my wedding scheduled for June 27, 2009, I will be using two remaining personal days on June 25 and June 26, 2009, as I have personal responsibilities and obligations that must be attended to during those days that will be impossible to miss. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in this matter.
Then it's an official request for personal days without giving her any room to say 'no,' really.
Good luck!

The last day is a half day for kids but we have to stay, for our closing lecture!!! And get our checks, which doesnt matter because I have direct deposit. we also hand in our keys and stuff.. b ut remember the sped teacher can do that.
my union rep just said.. she may give me one day and just to be a biatch she would give me the thursday and not friday. see how nasty!!

Re: requesting off...
I think i would just go wit the doctors note first. Just get the note and be out that way.
Because if you tell her and she says no shes going to know the doctors note is bs and that might make you look a certain way to her.

Im a teacher too and I would def check with my union reps first before doing anything!!! Listen to what they tell you and then the best bet would be the doc route! Let me know how it goes!!
