Reserving rooms at hotel

How is everyone working it when it comes to the ceremony in 1 place and the reception in another. Which do you reserve hotel rooms near? Also, are we responsible for transportation for everyone? Our budget is getting so tight tbut still, I want to do the right thing. Any thoughts on the transportation of out of town guests?
