I do it throught NY cares. I received one letter from a five year old who wants a new teddy bear and yu-gi-oo cards(sorry about the spelling).

Do you deliver it personally to the child?
My sisters friend actually went to the childs home (Or maybe just to the front door) and personally gave the gift to the child. I cant imagine that being allowed everywhere with how this world has become (unfortunately). but I think thats so special, a personal touch. and whats more rewarding is getting something for those kids that want something SO LITTLE that will mean SO MUCH! (and not the brats who will send back something if its not the right brand or color )

I don't get to deliver it personally to the child. For the younger ones who still believe in Santa, they actually think Santa came and answered their letters.

I wanted to do this rather than toys for tots because I felt like I know that the child received what he/she asked for and the excitement it must bring.

I have done something similar to this in the past for a non-profit organization that collects letters of truly needy families and distributed them to volunteers that offered to fill the requests. They changed it a bit and now take collections. One of my friends is close to the board and I usually spend a day shopping & wrapping gifts for these families each year.

Yes - my co is doing this and I am coordinating it. I had to go to the post office and pick up 60 letters. I posted the letters around the office and people can choose which one they want - then we are having a wrapping party next week and we will ship te gifts directly to each child!

When I worked for an infant/toddler day care center, we decided to answer a Dear Santa letter. Between the staff (8 of us) and parents of the kids we got so much stuff. My brother and I delievered to the house. Not to sound mean or anything but we came with 6 bags filled of stuff and this woman was not appriciative, she asked if all the stuff was new and if there were receipts I was like . Not even a thank you. Her kids got a beautiful Christmas and that made me feel better. I answered a few letters since then, but not recently...maybe I'll go to the post office today

I did it this year, but I did it through BJ's. They have a tree and you choose a child off of the tree and it has what they want/need.

I actually did it with my son to kinda teach him that not everyone is as fortunate as we are. I let him pick the child and told him what it was all about.

Everyone in my office called and we each got a letter. It made me feel good to give gifts to less fortunate family. I am very lucky to have a very generous family and I wanted to make someone else's Christmas a good one too.
