Response date for invitations

I am going to order my invitations in the next few weeks and I am trying to figure out what date I should use for our response date. The wedding is on March 29th and I know that normally I should use February 28. However, since I have read that so many other brides have had problems with receiving the responses on time, I was considering putting an earlier date on the response cards. I thought Valentine's Day might be cute and easy for people to remember. What do you think? Is that too early?

I would do Valentine's Day because it gives you 2 weeks for the 'rude' non-responders. Except to have to make a few phone calls. Somehow people just think you know they are coming or not.

I am also getting married on March 29th. I was told by the person who does invitations that I should put March 1st b/c. But I think I need to put an earlier date b/c the place I'm having my reception needs a final count by the beginning of March. Thanks for the post

I am getting married the week before you March 22, 2003, and trying to decide on what date to right too.

I think a earlier date is a good idea, since you already know you wont get them all in on time. At Valentines day is a cute idea, and maybe some people will remember it better since it is a holiday.

Thanks for your responses! I seemed to be second-guessing every little detail about the wedding and it is great to be able to run these 'minor' details by other brides (I am driving my FH crazy about all of the details).
