Response Etiquette

Hiya - More response card questions for you!

So as people are responding and inviting more than who were invited.

How are you handling uninvited guests? People responding with kids? The only kids I'm having are wedding party and 3 other child (2 9 year olds and a 7 year old) because they are all coming in from a very far distance (1 family from Hawaii and the other has a 2 hour drive and is staying overnight with us)

If it's his side he needs to contact the person, my side, I or my mom would contact.

I don't want to offend and have people decline, but I didn't want kids there either and now I feel like I'm being a B

It's a touch situation, especially when there will be other children there, I've made it a point to inform everyone I speak to it is adult only, and I believe you have the right to kindly request that of your guests as well. One way to have avoided this is to address the inner envelope to the specific persons included in the invite, but since they're already responding I believe a nice call from you or your mother (if it's your family) is ok. Some people will be offended that they cannot bring their kids when others can, but you have to pick your battles, and remember its your day, and that you can't make everyone happy, so as long as you are polite in asking them to kindly leave the kids at home, I don't think it will be a problem.

My sister had this happen to her, she just called them and politely said that the room was limited in space (which was a lie haha) and because of that, she couldn't invite kids- She also said that she would love to just let their kid come, but then she would start problems with other family members because if she invites one, she has to invite all- I would just leave it at that, and usually they understand

This happened to me! I ended up budging cause I hate saying no... I had few tell me well if I can't bring my kids I have to decline! Ugh... Family members ! I had to call all my cousins and tell them they could bring there kids now! They ranged from 5 to 16! It worked out at the end because few guest declined and it made up! It was nice to have all my lil cousins! I will tell you that always expect a few to decline last minute and some just wont give you the courtesy of not telling you! I could say about 5 guest who said they were bringing a date and did not come with them and then I had a one person bring a date who I didn't add a plus one... and then I had two couples not show who rsvp yes ! My best advice is stick to your guns!! Lol the unexpected will happen! It's part of wedding planning! Lol don't worry about what others think because when the big day arrives trust me the only thing your going to think about is your husband!!!

The other thing that might help is to maybe arrange for a sitter. Especially if your having a hotel room block, you can sometimes hire sitters to watch the children, this way the parents have a convenient place to leave them while the go to the Reception, and although you would pay for it as a favor to your guests, it would likely be less then paying for all those additional plates/favors etc.

I would just say that you have reached maximum capacity w/ regard to guests.

I had an adult reception and I told people through word of mouth & had it on my response cards.

I think this is a great way to nicely tell someone their kids are not invited.

Thanks everyone - kinda crazy that even though the envelopes were addressed to the guests only that people still respond w/ additional people!!
