My FH birthday is next week and I want to go to a steakhouse in NYC. Can anyone recommend a good one. Thanks so much.

Re: Restaurant in NYC
You can try - Angelo and Maxies or Sparks. Also, Smith and Wollensky. These are all excellent. Also, I've heard great reviews for Del Frisco's in Midtown although I've never been there. You can go to Zagat.com and get info on all these places. Good luck!

Re: Restaurant in NYC
I went to Ruth Chris' for the first time and loved it! It's on 51st street (or close to it)
The Palm steakhouse is supposed to be one of the best steak housees in the city. I think there are a couple of locations - the one downtown is supposed to be a little better.

Re: Restaurant in NYC
Peter Lugers (in Brooklyn) is totally overrated, IMO. Its pretty dingy inside and the steak was nothing special. Now the cream spinach, thats another story But honestly I felt it was overpriced and not all that. Go to Del Frisco's - its great.

Re: Restaurant in NYC
My brother lives in Manhattan and is a steakhouse aficionado. He recommends Sparks or Ruths Chris (which is actually where he went just last night for his birthday). Have fun!

Re: Restaurant in NYC
Steakhouses .... let's see we've been to these places!
Morton's Cite ... you can get a good pre fixe/ wine tasting menu ... good atmostphere Palm ... excellent Angelo Maxie's .... great food & atmosphere ... also a great bar scene!! Maloney & Porcelli ... a more casual place but great food Mark Joseph's ... unbelievable but very expensive Oak Room ... at the Plaza Hotel Post House ... has a great reputation Sparks .. very boys club, but great food.
here's the link to zagat's ... steakhouses in NYC! good luck
Del Frisco's is GREAT!!! And Maloney & Porcelli is also really good, but I really like Del Frisco's!

Re: Restaurant in NYC
ditto jennyg re: peter lugers...I went there for my bday 2 years ago and was completely unimpressed...the food was good, but not the best I've had. and its not romantic either, which is what I wanted. I'd try any of the other suggestions mentioned above!

re Peter Luger's ...
JMO .. but I think there are better places out there. Is there one in the city tho. If you're thinking Queens, then I recommed Uncle Jack's in Bayside!

Re: Restaurant in NYC
FYI - just incase you do decide on Peter Luger's, you should know it's CASH ONLY...
alot of people don't know that.....
or they have a Peter Luger's Credit Card!! funny!
but I agree with the above...it's overrated!

Every man I know absolutely loves Peter Luger...but for me its a complete waste.
The Old Homestead comes highly recommended.

Dh has been to tons and said DelFrisco's (sp?) has been the best. (He goes out with work alot - oh I miss those days of the corporate card!)
(Lots of people have also told me Luger's is overrated too.)

Christine,
I tried logging onto Zagats, but it says I need to subscribe. I didn't know it was not for free anymore!

Word on the street is that the 'cool' steakhouse is Dylan's Prime on Laight street downtown.
