I'm finishing up an out-of-town guide to e-mail out to our OOT guests, and I'm including a section with local restaurant recommendations.
We blocked rooms at a hotel in Garden City.
The restaurants I tentatively have listed are:
La Piazza (Italian) Fabio’s (Italian) Phil’s Restaurant (Italian) Eng’s Restaurant (Chinese) Orchid (Chinese) P.F. Changs (Chinese) Grand Luxe Café (Dessert) East Bay Diner Tai Show (Japanese – Sushi/Habachi) The Mixing Bowl*
I may add/remove some, but a lot of these are closer to my house than the hotel. Any suggestions closer to Garden City? Also, is anything on my list bad?
(I plan to add phone number/address for each - and Mixing Bowl is on there with a note because it was featured on Kitchen Nightmares, a show FH and I love! )
Here is all the resturants in Garden City...I'm a google FREAK!!!!!!!!! Pick and choose from recommendations. The addresses are already here. Hope this helps.
thank you everyone. I also googled a list of restaurants in Garden City but want a shorter list of places for the first OOT guide I'm sending out.
It has info on transportation (airports, cabs, rental cars) and our OOT hotel, plus a few things to do near the hotel and restaurants near the hotel. I'm also including some things to do in the city, and tips on the different ways to get discount show tickets.
I think I'm going to include a revised version in our OOT baskets in the hotel rooms which will include more restaurants and more things to do in the area. I might include a giant list of restaurants and star the ones we personally recommend.
For now I'm just looking for a few personal recs of places that are actually good :)
Well for a place that is actually good and in the area I suggest Gasho of Japan on 1 Ring Road. You OOTers can go as a group and really enjoy themselves. I also suggest they order their Mai Tai's very yummy! HTH

There are a bunch of cute restaurants on 7th street in walking distance of the hotel. I would add the 7th Street Cafe to your list. Cute place, good food, good prices. Also, I think Asian Moon on Franklin Avenue is a nice place. Sushi Ya on Franklin is great for sushi from what I hear, but I never touch the stuff myself.
City Cellar is my favorite... and Waterzooi if you like belgiuan and mussels!
that was it.. waterzooi..
i have no clue where i got blue water from?!?!
mmmm its sooooo good there, especially on monday and tuesday nights when they have their wine dinner specials... $35 = a glass of wine with each course, an appetizer, entree, and dessert.... sooo yummy!!!

I also recommend: - Leo's (it's a pub type place, good for a burger and stuff like that) - The St James (over in Mineola) - The Soup Exchange - best soup ever!!!! (This is a lunch place - just thinking in case they want something quick and a lighter type meal).
