John's Pizza on 44th and 8th.
Hmmmmm. Been there a thousand times and was there last Thursday...
Brick oven pizza is their thing, but they have specials and pasta dishes, sandwiches and other goodies too.

There's Ollies if you like Chinese (or Ruby Foo which is kind of on the expensive side)
Joe Allens is great, but also on the expensive side...
Carmines--expensive...
And I've never been there to tell you how it is, though I assume it's great too...
Uhhh...I will think of more...

Rachel's on 9th btwn 43&44, Le Madeline on 42nd btwn 9th and 10th, Red on 44th(I think may be 43rd) btwn 8th and 9th. Those are 3 of my favorites in that area.

I have been to Trattoria Trecolori - it was decent. I dont know how the prices are as I went there for a work dinner so it was paid for already. We had the upstairs room and it was a buffet ITalian dinner. It's in a good area near broadway.

Other good restaurants in the area - for seafood- Foleys Fishhouse in Renaissance Hotel, The Blue Fin in the W and Citarella on 47th. Somewhat pricey tho.

Del Friscos is good too but pricey. Virgils for BBQ is awesome too... its across from Trattoria Trecoloria I believe.

I went to Trattoria Trecolori last year after we went to see a show. I was a little disappointed in the food. My FH did not like his chicken parmesan, he said it was like rubber, and my tortellini was way too salty. Maybe it was just a bad night.

I've heard Carmine's is really good. I think I went to Puleo's or Puleo's II a couple years ago, and it was good, but tables are kind of close together. My second choice when we were in the area last year was to go to Langan's. It's like a bar/restaurant. We stopped there for a drink in middle of day, and it was pretty dead.

I've been to Puleo's II many times and the food has always been good. If you tell them you have theatre tickets, they will get you out in plenty of time. Call for a reservation just in case, but you can normally get a table at 6pm.
They are at 259 W 45th St.

My friend just saw Avenue Q a few weeks ago and loved it!! I sent her to
Becco at 355 West 46 Street
between 8th & 9th for Italian is delicious and reasonably priced!

Bringing affordable food to the masses may not be an original idea, but in the hands of Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph, it is a very appetizing one. After the success of their East Side eatery Felidia (an upscale Manhattan mainstay since it opened in 1981), this mother and son team decided to find a way to offer their authentic Italian-American food at more accessible prices. Thus in 1993 Becco was born. Becco -- derived from the Italian word 'beccare' which means to nibble -- is now a mainstay of its own on Restaurant Row, and regularly attracts tourists as well as New York natives. There is always a prix-fixe meal for lunch or dinner, which includes unlimited servings of three daily pasta specials. All the wines are Italian of course, and many bottles run only $20 -- unless you insist on bucking the bargain trend by ordering from the pricier reserve list. After a languid meal at this artfully appointed restaurant, you'll recognize that Becco truly is a humanitarian effort and a labor of familial love.

Carmine's, Carmine's, Carmine's!!!
Every Christmas, my (future) in-laws take all their kids and their spouses to lunch and a broadway show. We always go tot Carmine's and we always leave SO full and happy, and with no need to eat dinner! If you go early, around lunch time, and then to the show, you'll be fine. It gets VERY crowded later than that. The servings are huge and it's family style.

And even though you didn't ask, I am recommending the musical 'Wicked' to anyone who wants to go see a show on Broadway. Absolutely the best show I've seen, it will be hard to top it.

Yeah, I think Puleo's II is the one I went to. I remembered it because I was in that area last week, and I passed it. I could never remember the restaurant we went to a couple years ago, but I'm pretty sure that was it. I remember liking the food.

I need to see Wicked. I did read the book, and it was pretty good. I'm thinking the show is probably somewhat more light than the book was.

OOh- I second Carmines or Becco.

Actually prefer Becco as it is less noisy but both are excellent.

Tanbride - Did you eat at Becco's? I want to try it there the next time we are in there.

I LOVE Beccos- I have been going there since 1998 when I had my law school graduation party there- it's really, really good, nice atmosphere, and reasonably priced which is hard to find.

Do you know if they are open on sundays? That is when I am planning on heading in to see a show. Sounds like a wonderful restaurant.
