Resume writing

Anyone know of a place that helps you do resume writing? FH thinks he is going to get fired right after the wedding...we've sent out resumes, but no responses. I think we might need to change the wording around or something to make it more attractive...we live in NJ. Thanks much.

Re: Resume writing

i personally think resume writing services are a waste of time and $$$$, however i have a friend who used one and was pleased. i can email her and get the info for you if you want.

do you have any writer friends? english teachers? i have found what works best for me is to write it and send it out to everyone and their mother for comments. also, you may want to have 2 or 3 different versions depending on the type of positions he is applying for.

i would get a good 2-3 versions down pat and focus on the cover letter more... JMO.

let me know if you want the info

I would also look for a reference book at the store or library.

I agree that they are a waste of money...but I've tried to re-write it, and I don't think I did a very good job

I don't know...I guess we're both stresses that maybe his feeling is right..what if he loses his job right after the wedding. I will not be a happy camper

I guess I could...I'm not that close with HR people...so I don't know if they would help. But that's a good suggestion. Thanks.

Re: Resume writing

it can be hit or miss, BUT...

one option is, take out all personal and company information and post it here for it to be ripped apart. some people here give good advice, some are out to just be mean (hence, take out all info). they won't rewrite it for you, but comments may trigger ideas for you and FH.

also, browse through the resumes posted and see if there are any that are similar to FH's. figure out what you like/don't like about these resumes and adjust FH's accordingly...

this is what i do time and time again
