resumes - 2 pages?

i think I am at the point in my career where I should be on my second page...I really can't squoosh everything onto one page


what are your thoughts?

I know the HR girl that I used to work with would always say that a resume should be 1 page., because employers don't want to read 2 pages....??

my parents always stress the importance of a one page resume, yet their's are two! I don't really think it's that big of a deal, but then again, you never know! I would just make sure the most important, up to date info is on the first page, which it usually is anyway.

I was always told that 1 page is a must...but I keep cutting and shrinking...and then I looked at some sample resumes online and they are 2 pages...

My resume is 2 pages. Im sorry but I feel that my 18 years of work experience is VERY important~!! I got my last job with my 2 page resume so I guess its not that bad!!

I would think that if all of your experience is relevant to the job you are searching for, then the size of your resume shouldn't matter.

I've also heard the one page rule, but I think it's silly and know quite a few people who have gotten excellent jobs with 2 page resumes.

My resume is also 2 pages. I cannot fit it all on one page without leaving off important stuff. I am in the process of update mine right now and 2 pages it is.

A resume should be one page. A C.V. can be more than two pages. But CVs are usually only used in academia. Most people poorly space their resumes. Make sure to leave little space on the sides and top and bottom of the page.

my margins are so small...and the font is 10...

I squooshed it...but I feel like I have so much more to say...I'll leave it for the cover letter right now

I'm on 2 pages now - pretty much all my experience on one, and then my education, licenses & leadership stuff carries over to the next. I think 2 pages is acceptable, if its all relevant information.

The last time I had to give out my resume, it was 3 pages and all the places called me back, so how bad can it be? As long as it's not 2 pages of fluff, its fine.

I don't believe that applies when you have so much experience as you do Erica...my Dad has a 2 pages resume and no one ever said anything to him about it, he has 20+ years in the field. I'd rather it be 2 pages for you to show them your experience rather than 1 page and leaving some things out.

I'm in HR! While I don't recruit in my dept, I mostly see 1 pg resumes. Senior Execs usually have more. I think it's just easier all around if it can squish onto 1 pg. Then again, don't take out important info just to avoid 2 pgs.....

My last employer arranged for an outplacement agency (Lee Hecht Harrison) to work with those of us that were not being taken with the acquisition. They worked with us on resumes, mine was 2 pages and they didn't say anything against it.

As long as the important stuff is on the first page that's what counts - if they like what they see there they will look at the second page. Your first job or the school you went to is not what's likely to get you the interview.

One of the better pieces of advice I got was that you don't have to put details on everything you've done, just what's relevant to the position you want. ie: I've done Customer Service in the distant past but that is not a position I want now, so I don't put much detail under that job heading, just one line, ie: responsible for managing 3-person customer service department. Keep it that simple and if they want to know details they will ask. That helps keep the resume from getting crowded and redundant.

I kept it one page right now...next time it will probably expand to 2...but hopefully there won't be anext time...lol
