RESURFACING AFTER AN EXTENDED ABSENCE! (+mini-vent and help!)

Hi All!

I didn't mean to disappear for a while but life got in the way, what with moving to a much bigger place (which meant some creative redecorating), getting a new job, finishing my master's (almost) and getting a new car I just totally haven't been around at all!

Not sure if I was missed but I wanted to say hi and hopefully I'll be around a bit more!

I haven't even really lurked at all lately so catch me up!

Also, a question: all my BMs know that their dresses are supposed to be knee-length (they were given the designer, color and length but can pick any dress). My sister (MOH) is full length to differentiate her. Well, FSIL went to try on this week and told me she had 3 pics for me to see and help her choose. TWO ARE FULL LENGTH! and she and FMIL (who I adore, both of them, which makes this kinda harder) were like 'i know you said knee length but this long one looks the best on her...its totally up to you but this long one is really the most flattering' arrghh why did she even try on long when she knew they were supposed to be knee length? So now she was like 'its totally up to you' but went on and on about how much she loves the long one...WHAT DO I DO???

Of course my first post back has to be a vent, but you ladies are all soooo helpful I didnt know who else to turn to!!!

i would tell her that if she really likes the long one then she can get that one but she'll have to have the length altered to knee length bc your sister is the only one who will have a long dress to differentiate!

Point out exactly what you said...that though she knew that she was to order a knee-length dress, she still tried on the long one, but that you feel that you've given her a lot of freedom in regard to picking a dress and this is one place where you just can't budge. You can phrase it nicer; I tend to be blunt with things.

Ugh - thats so frustrating. Maybe she can shorten the one she loves and you can tell her that your MOH was hoping to be the only one with long so she stands out. Why do people have to be so difficult.

Ahh but those are good things to get in the way of wedding planning! Congrats on the move, the new car, and the *almost* masters!!!

And I'd tell them politely that they could of course order the full length dresses, but they'd have to be altered to knee length. What's the designer? I know we got B2 by Jasmine dresses and every dress comes in knee length, tea length, and floor length. HTH!

My sister will be soooo upset because she already feels like FSIL is more involved (sister lives in Canada and FSIL is here so she comes to a lot of appointments and stuff)

FH is great though and said he would talk to his mom about it, that I'm right and he'll take care of it.

Welcome back! A lot of floor-length gowns can also be made tea-length. So why not see if that's an option?

I think what she likes about this gown is the bottom is a mermaid style, I was thinking about suggesting altering it but if I'm remembering the picture correctly that would change what she likes about it.

She did however try on one knee length that I thought (for real I swear) looked STUNNING on her, and she said she liked it too but her and FMIL just thought the long one was 'more slimming' (she's tiny to begin with!!)

ITA....all my girls got to pick their own dresses, except all my girls are floor length. If one of them approached me & wanted to cut the dress I would say, So sorry but this is what I want. Its ok for you to put your foot down about this.

As far as fsil....what type of neckline is the dress...you can always differentiate the dresses by having the moh have a diff neckline than the bm's? Thats what I would do if my fsil did that (I adore my future in laws...so I would alter what I wanted to please everyone else)

All i would say is if you decided to give the full length to your sister, then you should tell FSIL that she should really stick to knee length styles. You know just tell her that you this was how you were distinguishing your MOH from the rest of the bridal party. She should understand. In the end it is what you want, not what others want.

Hmmm. It's your day. If you really want the knee length go for it. Just tell her you only want knee length.

Me personally? I wouldn't care what they wanted and would let them pick whatever they liked and not let it bother me.

But you are being very nice and giving them a choice, so she should s uck it up and get knee length.
