Retarded Goverment Passport Policy

Retarded Goverment Passport Policy

Ok, I am sure that they are many who are sharing in my dilemma of not having a passport for my honeymoon. Well I called the Passport agency to check the status of my passport and they told me it was still being processed. FANTASTIC! I am going on my honeymoon in around 2 weeks and I don't have a passport. So he then tells me that I can expedite it and by expediting it it will take 2 to three weeks to process.

Ok ... so you have to call 2 weeks before you have to travel with a passport but when you do call you still wont get the passport when you need it?!?!? Does this make sense to anyone else?

This definitely goes up there with the most retarded government policies I have ever heard of! right below the drinking age of 21 with the military drafting age of 18.

I have heard because the passport office are so overwhelmed that as long as you have the receipt from ordering the passport you can travel with that... I would look into it

i think that only applies if you have the receipt from EXPEDITING the passport process.

That is so stupid!!

I hope you get it soon.

When did you apply for it?

I sent away for mine on June 2 & I am really worried that I won't get mine in time for the wedding.

where are you going on your honeymoon? I know they relaxed the rules for a while for some places....

I applied for mine on May 2 and was assured I didn't need to expedite it....still nothing (FH went the week before me and still has nothing)

Someone posted the other day that they applied the first week of June and already got it without expediting it...

That makes me mad!

My parents went to the Bahamas back in April and my dad never got his in the mail so the dya before he left he had to go to the passport office (and be there by 8am- they didn't open until 9am and it was POURING!!!) in Philadelphia to get one in person (this arrangement was the result of about 8 phone calls in the preceeding week).

He used that one to travel, then had to mail it back.

The real one came the day after they left.

You need to check if you can travel with just the receipt because I think it's only for certain places.

I was under the impression that if you didn't get it within 2 weeks of traveling, you were to call and they would have you come down to get one on the spot before you leave....

In any case, I checked and checked for the status of FH's passport everyday and it kept saying 'processing.' In the meantime, he got it in the mail and the status didn't change!

Is this your very first passport? i had mine *renewed* and i paid for expedited service and got it in less than 2 weeks....

if you're only renewing your passport... i don't see why it would take longer than 2 weeks.... especially if you paid for expedited service...

i hope you get yours soon... good luck!

Bring your birth certificate with a raised seal, your drivers license and then your marriage certificate... That should be sufficient - just call your airline just in case.

i could swear that there is a passport center in CT that can probably expediate it for you and give it to you that same day. I know that it was possible in the past but I don't know if it is like that now. I think you needed proof that you needed it ASAP. I am almost positive that it is in Stamford across the street from the Metro North station. I'll try to see if my family has the information.

Problem: needed to send away the original copy of my birth certificate to apply for the passport that should've been mailed!!! I think I need it for my marriage certificate too!

you can get another copy of your birth certificate from vital check: https://www.vitalchek.com/

I paid $26.00 for it but i didn't pay for expedited shipping... i think it took a few weeks, so you might want to spend the extra $16.00... your fee might be different, not sure if its the same as mine was...

best of luck...

i am in the same boat as you!!! i am leaving the 19th - just called the other night and lied and told them my travel date was the 12th! they said they were sending an email to the place where my passport is being processed and that if i didnt have it by monday to call back - still have no passports - this is absolutelu ridiculous considering we did them 14 weeks ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that is retarded...I hope for all the best, I am sure you will be fine!!! They have to be able to do something!

The only good thing about this passport debacle (not yours, just in general), is that I have a horrible court case where the mother is charged with neglect and is trying to get passports for her and her children, since we are trying to remove them to their dad (she intentionally makes them ill)-I hope everyone who needs gets a passport and I hope they make sure not to let her have one!
