Review of Dress Shopping
I wanted to start this review and will add on and edit as I go because I do not want to forget details later on. What made me want to start this review is that I was so terrified of dress shopping, i just heard horrible things and I actually had a wonderful experience every where I went so I wanted to share!
I am a size 14/16 and I thought all the dress samples would be a size 4 and that nothing would work. Most dresses seemed to be a 10 or a 12 and they were able to put it around me in a way that I could get a good idea of how they would look.
It took three weekends to find my dress. 'The one' was the very last dress that I tried on.
Burtons:
Samantha helped me. I wanted to start here since I already liked them from booking my flowers downstairs. they also did my friend's wedding's flowers. beautiful. the upstairs IMO needs to be bigger! Samantha was wonderful and so sweet! I had an appointment, but it was saturday and crowded and I was not given a dressing room. instead they put up a screen in the corner where the two rows of dresses meet! I found two dresses that I LIKED ALOT. my aunt was with me and did not like the clutter on the desk and did not want me to order anything from them but my mom told her burtons had a good reputation.
Bridal Garden in Bethpage -
Barbara helped me and she was wonderful! I tried on so many and had 3 favorites!! i thought i was going back there but nope...my aunt and mom were able to seat and watch. not crowded but some other shoppers in and out. i really liked barbara- wish i could have ordered from her but its not about the place its about the dress!
Lillettes in Baldwin
I think it was Carol who helped me. also wonderful. lots of dresses. two favorites. it was crowded but i had a dressing room and my mom, aunt and fmil could all have a seat to watch.
Princess Bridals - Farmingdale-
I thought I found 'the one' here. it was like the one i tried on at bridal garden and Lillettes in baldwin but it had a sweetheart top instead of a halter and i really really liked it alot.
the ladies that worked here were slightly more pushy than other places i went to but if it was the right dress i'd order from them. not crowded but some other shoppers in and out. oh and they had the two dresses that i liked a lot from burtons so i tried them on again and they were no longer my favorites.
David's Bridal - Westbury
my friend got her wedding dress there and i got my bridesmaid dress for her wedding there with good experience. it is not as much attention as the other shops. i will probably use them for my bridesmaids since they are all spread out all over the place and david's is everywhere. i went to try on dresses after two other shops and i was way too exhausted to enjoy it. nothing on me was clicking and the lady kept bringing me sizes too small and i was itchy from the undergarments they gave me but thats not their fault, if i had more energy i would have made sure i got the right size and this and that but i was just too pooped out by then to care! david's is fine !! oh but the prices are not much different than other shops i went to and i was surprised about that becuz i thought david;s was supposed to be a way better deal. ???
bridal suite in huntington
on a sunday, lots of places were closed but my mom really wanted me to try bridal suite in huntington that i think she saw listed in a phone book or something. i had never heard of it and thought the dress in princess bridals was the one but wasnt sure and i was confused on whether i had the energy to try on more dresses after going to the three places the day before. but we went. they were so nice. they are not open every sunday, we lucked out. margie, the owner helped me.... i tried on several dresses. finally margie picked something that i had liked in magazines but had not tried on in other stores becuz i thought my chest were too big for that style. but this was the one. i went home to think more about it and searched the bbb and this site on the store as well as google the dress so i can study it in pictures for a few days and i ended up going back on thursday night to try it again and ended up ordering it!! i also tried on another dress i really liked in lillettes but it was so not for me anymore. its so weird how the favorite changed from place to place but my 'the one' dress had no comparison to the rest and thats how i knew!
