RH Help!

RH Help!

My sister was set to get married in May of '09. Well...she was contacted today by her RH telling her that they were canceling all '09 weddings because of construction. They are refunding her money and everything but now she has no where to get married. She booked her church, DJ and a few other things already and doesnt want to change the date. She has called a few places to see if they are available on her date but they are all booked or she has too few people. Jericho Terrace is available but that is where I got married in March and she doesnt want to go to the same place, she is going to look any way but would like her 'own' place. We also called Crest Hollow. Has anyone been married there or been to a wedding there recently? I would appreciate some feedback for her. I know she has time still but I know how quick halls go and I dont want her to get screwed because of this.

Thanks Ladies!!

Re: RH Help!

I went to a wedding at the Crest Hollow and loved it!!!!

The food was excellent and the staff was great!!!

We were at a rowdy table near the bar and the bartender was awesome!!!! The servers were always refilling us and treating us very well - even though we were a little rowdy.

It was beautiful too!!!! I don't know how many other weddings were going on but there was never a problem at the bathroom. In fact - I didn't notice if there were other weddings.

IMO - can't go wrong with Crest Hollow.

OMG! Why would they book weddings and then decide to do construction? That's not fair!
Wish her best of luck!

No its not!! What's terrible is they knew they were doing construction because it takes time to get permits and they just got them...and they have already taken a few payments from them also

So sorry to hear that!

Have you posted on the 09 boards? They probably have a better idea of what's available in May 09, or they may know of someone who cancelled their wedding and the date is open.

Sorry to answer your question with a question, but what RH was she originally using? That might help give an idea of her style.

You mentioned that she couldn't meet the minimum for some halls. How many guests is she expecting? Will the original RH agree to cover some of the cost if she has to guarantee a higher minimum, so that her overall cost stays the same?

Re: RH Help!

My sister had her wedding at Crest Hollow and it was fabulous.

Food was great, service was good, no complaints at all!

Not sure what her taste is, so its hard to suggest anywhere else. . . .

Crest Hollow is beautiful! Is there a particular area that's she's looking for? How about the Watermill?

i booked my May wedding on Memorial day weekend of last year; based on that she might try the Riviera in Massapequa

Re: RH Help!

Honestly she doesnt have a style at all...she is just looking for a place to get married that could accomodate her maximum of 100 guests. She likes a lot of different things and the reason why she went with her first (and only) choice hall was because she loves the food there. It is a restaurant downstairs and a catering hall upstairs so we have gone there a lot for parties and dinner. She just wants a nice place to get married that isnt expensive.

I've been to the crest hollow and if I remember correctly I really enjoyed it.

Re: RH Help!

I'm not sure of the prices for either of these, but the deSeversky Center has a max of 150. I'm not sure what their minimum is, but that may be an option for her.

Trumpets at the Gate has a max of approx 125.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she finds someplace she loves even more than her original choice.

Also Newsday Weddings has a reception location guide that gives info about the min/max number of guests for each location. That may help her narrow it down.

Good luck!

I think the Swan Club has a smaller room, and I remember they were beautiful and affordable.

Has she looked into Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens? They have a restaurant downstairs, and a catering hall upstairs that can accomodate a small wedding like that. I don't know what their 09 prices are, but they have several different packages to choose from.

And the grounds are very pretty, too...I had my engagement party there this past August and we took some great photos at the gazebo they have outside. Plus, there are huge windows in the hall itself so guests can see the gorgeous view.

Re: RH Help!

What about George Washington Manor? I believe they do smaller weddings there, as well. Also, Milleridge Cottage and Milleridge Carriage House are both nice.

Try SANS SOUSCI in Sea Cliff. Its really pretty and quaint and the food is really good.
