So my Mother is having issues with the RH's that my FH and I narrowed down to.
1 - The Carltun - too expensive (FH and I are paying btw - looking to have it in the Palm Court Restaurant as there are only around 100 max coming)
2- Timber Point- too far (40 min from the Church)
3- Snapper Inn - too far (45 min from the Church)
I admit that we would be cutting it a bit close as we are having an 11am ceremony (over at 11:30)and would have the reception at 12:30 (they won't push it back to 1pm).
I agree with her that I do not want people drinking and driving etc and that it might be a long drive for some however I am renting a limobus as we are going to have around 40ppl from out of the country coming plus my family from out of the state.
We have looked at A LOT of other places and either they have don't have the date free, I don't have enough people or we just weren't thrilled with them.
Its our wedding and I don't want to settle but I feel super guilty about choosing a place that is far from the church...
Opinions? TIA!!

Re: RH issues with distance...
Maybe if you cannot find a nearby place, offer a free shuttle for your guests.

Honestly, I don't think it's a big deal. My best friend got married at a church in Valley Stream and then her reception was at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook. It was a long ride, but she loved the place.
It's your wedding. If people need to travel, so be it.

I pretty much concur w/everyone else....it's no biggie, I was considering having mine in Riverhead.....we are getting married in Lindenhurst!!!!!! Whatever is going to make FH & you happy......def is what matters the most. At the end of the day do you really wanna look back & say to yourself, 'Why didnt I just do what I wanted?????'
Congrats, I think all 3 are awesome choices!!!

I agree with the prior posters that, generally, those near and dear to you will be fine with the distance between the church and RH.
That said, I'd be concerned about the time constraint. If anything runs late at the church, people may wind up missing part of the CH. You and FH also won't want to feel rushed taking your pictures.

also keep in mind that you'll want to take pictures outside of the church and people are usually standing around for a bit, so you might want to factor that into the timing.

Re: RH issues with distance...
I live in Westhampton Beach & our RH is Snapper Inn =) I looooked and loooooked & looooked for places out 'East' and EVERY SINGLE THING was out of our budget. Our Church is in Westhampton Beach as well. We blocked rooms at a hotel in Ronkonkoma and we are providing shuttle service from there to the reception.... People will travel ANY distance to see your wedding, trust me!

Re: RH issues with distance...
I live in Hicksville and most family and friends are coming from Nassau County and Queens. Our RH is near Riverhead. I also have an afternoon wedding so I found a church nearby that would marry us so that there is no travel time in between ceremony and reception hall. It would've been an hour w/no traffic between our local parish and RH. It would've made the ceremony too early.
My mom and FMIL had a big issue with the RH being so far and having the ceremony so early. They think no one will come to the church and that it's sad to see an empty church.
The way I see it is, if we mean something to them, they will make it. If not, it's their loss, not mine. People can get up a little early to see someone getting married!

Re: RH issues with distance...
I wouldn't worry about the distance. It's your wedding! My guests will have to drive from Wantagh (church) to Smithtown (reception). The one thing is that you'll have to work with your priest/deacon/rabbi to have a shorter ceremony, and you won't be able to do family photos after the church. Maybe you can appease your mom by having a 'plan' of how you're going to get all the relatives shots done at the RH. I work in Hewlett- where are you getting married at? St. Josephs?

Re: RH issues with distance...
Go where you like. It is you wedding ...your day. I have had many friend get married where there was a 30-45 min drive between the ceremony and reception. Why settle for a place that is 10-15 min closer. It is not worht it.
