FH and I went to a RH and they told us to keep costs down we can do a 'buffet style' early dinner. FH seems happy with that but I think its a bit rude to ask our guests to go into another room and get their food and come back to the main room. What are your thoughts on this? Would you feel it was tacky to do that? We're having a noon wedding on a sunday. There will me stations so theres not a huge buffet line.

Re: RH service question
How come the food will be in another room? Usually the buffet is set up in the same room? Is it done that way because of space problems? What RH is this?

I don't think it's that big of a deal. IMO you gotta do what you gotta do to save money sometimes. I personally wouldn't think anything of it. I would just make sure there was enough that people didn't have to stand on line too much.

I love Buffets because I get to try a little of everything.

Its Lessing Vanderbilt Mansion Dowling. The ball room is a bit small and its a T shape so they will be holding the buffet in the Hunt room (usually where cocktail hour is held) and its right across the foyer from the ballroom

I agree! I actually think it might make a nicer appearance if the buffet line is outside of the dining room. Either way - people will just be happy to eat! And I'm sure most people won't care at all!

I also love buffets and don't think they are rude.
The only drawback I see is that they can be time-consuming. However, that's not a reason I'd write them off completely. If you'll save a lot of money, go for it. I don't think anyone will be annoyed.

I love buffets because I am a picky eater and with a buffet I can choose what I want. LOVE THEM!!

In that case, then I say go for it. Like EGreene79 said, its better to have the line in another room instead of blocking traffic in the ballroom. I ahve jsut never seen it done before.

Re: RH service question
I've only been to 1 wedding with a buffet and it was a while ago. I believe they called the tables by number, though, a few at a time so no one was waiting on line for a really long time.

Man this reminds me of the athletic banquets I use to attend very bad memories. FH and I will have to ask how people will get the food. FH's family is ok with the buffet but my family feels we should have a sit down. so man decisions.

Re: RH service question
It will be like a great cocktail hour!!!! That is usually the best part!! If you find something you like you go back for more. It is a party....your party and the people you care about will be there to celebrate with you. It will be fine.
