RH tastings...

when do they occur? Before or after your decision is made? Did you attend several tastings?

After you book, closer to the wedding date. Our caterer said we could schedule it at any time (I think Im going to wait as close as I can to the wedding just in case their menu changes). As far as I know its only one tasting....

Both of them that I went to were before I booked. FH and I wanted to taste the food before we booked someplace. I am glad that we did because we didnt really like the food at one place!

Ours was a massive tasting-they do it twice a year and invite pretty much anyone wanting to book the hall whether they have booked or not. We didn't taste all of the items on our menu but did taste enough to know the food will be amazing. LOL When choosing items, we were actually helped by one of the staff who put on 50 pounds while working there because of all the 'tasting' he does, so we figured if HE likes it, it's a good sign!

Since we never had the food t our RH we got to do the tasting with my parents before we put down our down payment.

It really depends on the hall. We did two tastings - one before we made our decision (at a hall we didn't pick) and one at the hall we did pick after we made our decision. (We already knew the food there was great when we booked!)

Some places have big tastings a few times a year (I think the Metropolitan does them every 3-4 months for those who have booked and those who are still deciding.) Many will invite you for a private tasting before you make your decision. This is what we did at Douglaston Manor - we went into one of the offices while there was a wedding going on and they brought us plates of appetizers and food.

FWIW, I just wanted to add that our decision not to book Douglaston Manor was NOT based on the food. It was delicious and the place was lovely. We just fell in love with the Metropolitan, so we chose there instead.

The official 'tasting' was done after we booked, in April. We set the menu in August. However, we went to several bridal showcases at halls and they all served food, so you get an idea.

We did one yesterday at Sans Souci- food amazing by the way. They offered us the tasting before we booked because we were stuck between a couple of places. I would try and get one first if possible- i think most places will do that.

fh and i are both foodies so we will NEED to taste the food at each hall first. I'm golad to know that some places have tastings periodically. thanks.

We had our tasting and then booked the hall right after it.

You can always request a private tasting as we did with Douglaston Manor. Most places will happily oblige you if you are on the fence about booking!
