RH update
Hello Ladies...
Just wanted to put some info out there. I have been to a few RH and here is the rundown as far as I see it...
LI:
Towers on the green: didn't even go because the gentleman that picked up the phone was rude. Just my experience. But I figure if they are rude on the first call why would I want to deal with them.
The Inn @ New Hyde Park: Again didn't go because when I called I basically had to pull info from the gentleman that picked up the phone, sounded like it was an imposition to talk. Sorry, I know the place might be great- but when I am looking at so many places- I don't really have time to deal with the ones with shoddy customer service... makes me wonder...
Douglaston Manor: Very nice- drive up is nice, it is all lawns (it's a golf club) and in a quiet setting witha fountain in the front. Everything was clean. I showed up with no appointment in the afternoon on a weekend and they were very nice and accommodating. They had 2 parties going on yet the banquet manager still showed me around and went over pricing. Also despite the fact that there were 2 parties happening, I did not see overcrowding and the 2 parties were kept separate. They had a nice outdoor cocktail area. We are having a smaller wedding and I find it to be much harder to find a RH that can do a small wedding tastefully. Usually the rooms are too big and I don't want to be too spaced out. But they had a upstairs room, the conservatory, that had a warm intimate feel. The BM was flexible and when we asked about a feel special requests he was open to them. At one point we mentioned bringing in a small couch instead of the traditional dais, and he offered to bring up one of the ones he had downstairs!
Renaissance of Astoria: The drive up was weird, the neighborhood is kind of industrial and next door is an auto glass place. We weren't even going to go in at first...That being said the inside is very pretty. One event at a time, BI-level with cocktail party upstairs and reception room down some beautiful stairs. Everything is well kept and they have a high ceilings and a pretty dramatic focal wall that can be used in many ways. The BM was nice, took time to take us through the place and sit with us. The pricing for what they were offering seemed a bit high when I compared it with other places we had been to that were offering more for sometimes less of a price.
Ariana Waterfall: drove past didn't go in. Just personal taste.. I didn't love the brass railings and the decor seemed very 80's to me.
Coral House: The phone conversation I had with the BM was great off the bat, you could tell she had experience and knew what she was talking about. Even knew about some liquors that are from my country and said she could have them brought in if I liked. Immediately she invited us in for a tasting. This was actually a comfort since some of the places I talked to either do tastings only once in a while or after you book. I have to save FH loved this place. He liked that when you drove up it didn't look like a massive wedding factory. We went in and yes the do more than one event at a time so I am not sure if all the rooms are booked how it would be (crowded maybe) the bathrooms a re small, and I am not sure how many of them they have- something to check on for sure. The smaller room for our size wedding was very nice- more simple and understated which is what I like. The view of the lake is great. They offer a lot for the price I think.
Phew.. I think that's enough typing for now- but be on the look out for part 2...
